Wow, the preview 'website' looks pretty impressive. If it looks and feels the same when being run installed on top of XP it's a pretty neat program.

I think I'll give it a try at home tonight.

Very clever...

But am I one of the few (the only one?!?) that runs XP with all the eye-candy cr*p turned off ('classic' view)?

To me, all of the eye candy of modern OSes is just so pointless - XP, Vista, OSX, AmigaOS...

As long as I have a mouse pointer, a start menu, drop down menus and icons, (oh and 24 bit colourspace!) I'm happy...

So long as I can run the apps I need, I don't give a hoot about the 'theme' of the desktop. The more whizz-bang gfx, the slower the machine will run, although with CPU speed these days that's no so much of an issue...

Just curious what others think?

(Just my $0.02...)

Cheers,

Mike.

You're not alone.

XP default theme always makes me puke.

I never liked the 'classic' look of Win95/98/ME (boring grey blocky stuff, even worse than standard WB3.1). But I also don't like the standard (blue) look of XP, so I rather use the built-in silvery theme.

For the rest, the only eye candy on my desktop is the wallpaper that I use (mostly pictures that I took myself on holidays etc). I've turned off all fading/scrolling menus and other 3D-ish crap. But that's mostly because to modern day standards my pc is somewhat slow and lacking in memory (and I prefer using free physical RAM above virtual memory - it's slow enough as it is now).

it looks fairly nice and reminds me of when i first ran osx but i browsing for about 3 seconds when i thought damn where is everything? thats how i felt with osx. i think something like that would require too much getting used to for me. i could never quite get used to it i have no idea why i just couldn't get my head around it. i prefered the windows interface over it! even if i prefered whats underneath.

That's just a matter of using it longer. When I first used Linux (I believe a Red Hat distro) I didn't understand much of it either. I'm still no expert, but at least I can find my way around a bit. Same goes for OS X - once you abandon thinking "but in Windows it works like this", it's all pretty logical.

But I guess that's the case with all operating systems, in some way :-)

yeah i partly agree. but it's just not functional for me to have the close minimise restore buttons on the left and other things you know? it constantly felt like hard work!

Well I have it all... Mac Os X, Windows Vista, Linux and Amiga OS ... And the only one that "works" perfectly for me is Mac OS X ... But anyway. We don't want that discussion....

Think we all like Amiga OS :-)

I got it purple-grey-ish ('Plum', but with my dromeosaurus as walpaper on a black background).
I got this for years now. I got kinda the same for Linux. I got 'some' fancy stuff turned on in Linux, because it adds some necessary functionality (like, a window stretched on more desktops).
