Keyrah and Amiga 1000
« on: December 02, 2007, 08:42:07 PM »
What would it take to hack a keyrah to use an A1000 keyboard? Is it as simple as remapping the keyboard pinouts? Or would it be more complicated than that?

Just curious.

I think so - the reset works differently on the A1000 but the rest is exactly the same.

I didn't know that I could, or, even, that he was the one to ask. :)

Could you explain a little further how the reset works differently? Thanks.

On later models the reset signal (from three finger salute) is generated by the keyboard controller and there's a dedicated pin to run it to the system board.

The A1000 keyboard encodes it through a very long signal on KCLK and the actual _RST has to be regenerated by U4M (LM2901).

Since you probably don't need that function, it shouldn't really matter. ;-)

Oh, wait! Keyrah is only for passive keyboards like the A600/1200 ones, isn't it? So this won't work with the A1k KB.

No way to make the keyboard passive? Just wondering...

Thanks for the feedback.

Possibly the A1k KB uses the same matrix as later models, so it might work with removing the controller and connecting the then passive matrix to a Keyrah.

However, there's been a controller change from A1000/A2000A to A500/A2000B (my A2000A keyboard hangs in some games), so there's a chance the matrix was changed as well. You'd have to compare the keyboards to find out.

Yea, that's what I figured. Further research definitely required. Thanks again. :)
