A500 no picture
« on: November 26, 2007, 09:45:17 AM »
I've got an A500 from which I cannot get a picture either by using RGB or composite. The machine powers up and the floppy starts to click but the screen is black. Same thing with or without the extra memory module. Dunno whether the Workbench starts to load or not because when I put the floppy in, the drive just makes ill sounding noises.

Is the 68000 busted or something else?

Thanks!

If you can hear the drive clicking, then the 68000's certainly working well.

How does "ill sounding noises" sound anwyay?  The A500 floppy *is* kinda noisy, especially under the command of some trackloaders.

I don't know if you're using a 1084 or what, but try connecting it to a TV (using an A520 or the composite output) to see if you can get a picture there.
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

The "ill" noises sound like the drive doesn't know what to do with the floppy. I suppose the drive needs a proper cleanup or  something. I do have a replacement drive standing by. Still, you would expect to get at least the insert WB picture.

I've got an LG LCD monitor/tv with composite and scart inputs. It works with my A1200 and I've used it with a working A500. I've tried the b/w composite output. Don't have an A520 ATM.

I would try the 500 with some old telly (b&w portable -whatever) and see if you can get a picture with that. There maybe an issue betwwen the 500 and the LCD.

Even though I've tested the LCD to work with an A1200 and another A500? Anyway, testing with an old telly may be hard because I don't own a display with a CRT ATM. Well, I do have a Commodore 1901 but its circuit board is cracked from one corner and can't get any picture out of it.

I switched the floppy. When I booted and put WB in, I could hear the WB loading but the picture stayed blank. I've got an extra Denise I could try switching.

Haven't tried it yet. It may take while before I can find the time to properly open up the A500 and try the other Denise out.
