Would this CF card work with A590 XT interface?
« on: September 16, 2007, 08:33:26 PM »
8/16-bit 8GB IDE CF card

According to the information in the auction, this card can work in 8-bit mode.  The XT interface on the A590 is (from my understanding) essentially an 8-bit IDE interface.  Would this card work?

I may just buy one to see for myself.  I'd assume a few things:

1) The XT interface would tell the card to work in 8-bit mode
2) The XT interface in concert with the CF/IDE adapter asserts the right signals
3) The XT interface has the latest ROM to support the large size of the card
4) The A590 I have in my possession actually works

No, XT IDE isn't compatible with 16 bit IDE.

If you want to connect CF card to A590, you will need SCSI2IDE bridge (ie. ACard).

too lazy to use shift key properly...

Then it's a good thing that this card supposedly will work in an 8-bit mode, as per my original post and the item description.

8bit on the CF side, NOT on the IDE side.

Try looking for a SCSI cardreader, they do exist...

CF interface actually is 99% IDE...
But The card permits 8-bit accesses if the user issues a Set Feature Command to put the device in 8-bit mode.
As Tahoe hinted, this seems to be some exotic CF mode that most probably isn't compatible with XT IDE either. There's noone there issueing that command anyway.

Yeah, Tahoe made a good point about the CF vs IDE thing.  I'm probably just fishing for a reason to buy the 8GB CF card :)  Could use it to replace the 4GB in my 1200 instead...
