I missed out the first time. Will there be more assembled MiniMigs available?

I must have missed out too. I wasn't aware there was an official ordering. I thought all these threads were to see if there was any interest...

I fear there will only be assembled mini-migs when someone reaches deep into their pockets, takes the gamble and has 100+ made up professionally.

It is a risk, and who has 2k+ to invest?

I'm hoping that someone like Amigakit or Individual step up and do a production run of assembled boards in quantity.  However, I wonder if the profit margins involved would make the effort worthwhile.

If Amiga Inc had any business sense then they would leap on the Minimig as a way of selling those "classic" games they're trying to market for the PC via their website.  They have the golden opportunity to market the Minimig complete with a memory card containing a legal Kickstart image and several games preloaded.

Edit:  Perhaps Cloanto might be tempted by selling a Minimig/AmigaForever bundle complete with Kickstart ROMS.

Those at Amiga Inc seem to have the deal of the century. They get paid NOT to release any product.

It takes lots of work to release a product start to finish, especially an electronic item. I do have connections and if I was to get a board I could send out the unit for costing in asia.

I could then shop around for a price and minumum order qunatity (MOQ) 5000 units is usually the MOQ for electroncis. So anything less then that number gets expensive.

I hope folks arent expecting a $30 Minimg fully assembled.

I am a little out of the loop too. I heard a discussion about assembly, but am wondering what is happening. This seems like an item that can be mass produced and has a market outside of the Amiga community.

What would a board do? Would we need any other peripherals for it to work, or simply add adf or hdf images to have it up and running.

You'll be looking at $80-$90 if not more.

I kind of think that some people are, but (from a business perspective) that the price needs to be around $99 to be viable.  I'd be in the market for severaled products from a reputable company at that price.

To get in to the toy stores and do well in the electronic shops, the $99 price point is important.

Anything over $150 and it might be relegated to hobbiests ;)

I'd be happy to place a banner ad on my site if one become available. I'd do it at no charge too. I guess I should get my AMiga site up and running instead of talking about it, but it hard as I have just successfully got UAE working. Now I have access to every Amiga I ever wanted!

I heard talk before about someone working out the details to make them overseas in Asia. Has anyone heard anything further about this?

Considering that $80 gets you an Atari 10 game joystick:

I think that if the Minimig can be produced for a few dollars more and be a machine that will actually work as a computer and be user upgradable with new games software then it should find a market.  A cheap case with a no-frills PC keyboard & mouse and an analogue joystick should still be possible for $129-$149.  Of course, it needs somebody who is willing to take the risk and put up a lot of cash to front the effort.  It's tempting, but my wife would kill me if I end up with a room full of unsold Minimigs.   :-D

Let's take a page out of Marketing 101.

Sell one device, entry level with no upgrade potential. It comes out fo the box ready to work with games onboard. It has a card reader or other device to allow more games to be purchased. This would have fewer connectors and be perfect for someone wanting to just play games

Now sell another device that can be upgraded. Perhaps there can be two of these, but right now, I would image just one. If allgoes well, release an AGA compatible one.

Then there was an update where the boards were received, but he no longer has the time to assemble them.  People who ordered the blank boards are still going to get them, but I still don't know of anyone offering a pre-assembled Minimig.
