Any interest in used floppy disks?
« on: August 16, 2007, 07:50:49 PM »
I estimate I have about 100 hundred or more 3.5" Double Density diskettes that I no longer need. They also come with storage cases. I imagine they won't go for much, but if someone out there is just now getting into .adf files and wants to put them on real media, they might have some value.

I see lots like that sell on ebay all the time for like  $20, if they contain software theyll sell for slightly more. I'm pretty set on floppies now, but you shouldnt have much trouble selling these... especially with cases too.

I might be interested in some DD floppies...I currently own none... gave them away years ago when i sold my last amiga not expecting to regret the whole deal and buy another Amiga.

How much? I'm in FL.

Was planning on picking up some HD floppies to see how badly they worked.

Ive done that a few times and never had any problems... I have heard of people having serious data loss that way though. DD disks are still around and are cheap, its probably safer to use them for anything other than temporary stuff.

Not sure yet. I still need to sift through the stuff and make sure there isn't anything I really want to keep. Perhaps I can send you some photos later as well.

I use them typically for anti-credit card solicitation replies - you can ram about 6-8 of them in the typical CC reply envelope, tape it shut and voila - you pay back the man for the junk mail.

I have so many backup floppies around from some BBS computers I obtained several years ago - they came with those and after having endured the tedious work of copying ALL of them to another Amiga's hd, they aren't of much use any more.

another alternative is to send them to GreenDisk, which recycles them (but you have to pay for it).  I still may do that with at least a couple boxes of them someday, but we get about 2-6 CC applications every other week, so Capitol One - bite me! :)

I'd say sending disks to a recycler or someone who can use them is much more responsible. Besides, there are more ecologically sound and appropriate things you can send back in those envelopes... dirt, for example.

I've heard stories about using those return envelopes. I hadn't thought about returning floppies. heh heh.

Jeff, if you don't get any real offers I'll save them from the trash can.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I agree that disks pollute more than envelopes, but not more than all those stupid AOL cds everyone on this site (and everywhere else in the USA) used to get with nearly every free computer mag and/or the weekly mail.

I figure since these companies have no compunctions about wasting my time and mailbox with their crap, I should return the favor.  Had I small envelope-sized plates of steel to put in the envelopes instead, I'd use those, but I don't - doh!

The envelopes from these people are almost always reply paid (obviously meaning that the original sender pays for the return postage). Get a large box and fill it with crud and then tape the reply paid envelope to the top of it. Not only will they be forced to pay for the excess postage but they also get to enjoy delving into the depths to discover what you've sent them. Newspapers and banana peels work a treat.

Would you trade them for a box of buggy whips?
