M1230XA problem

I have an A1200 and an M1230 XA but when I plug the M1230 XA into the slot, I cannot even get to a kickstart request screen. Is there something I need to do?

     Hmm, I'm no expert, maybe someone else will have better news, but it sounds like the board or the CPU on the board may be bad..  

     Check to make sure all of the socketed chips on the board are seated well, try cleaning the connectors on the mainboard with cotton swabs and alcohol and try it again, but if it's still doing the same thing, something is probably out.

Remove the ram and try it... also, make sure the shielding in the 1200 is not contacting one of the solder traces on the card. This was a constant problem I had with an apollo board... I simply bent the shielding just a little.

I cant remember if there are jumper settings are on that card but you may want to make sure no jumpers are missing.

Did you use the install disk? That card does have an installer . I do remember it always double booting.

The software only enables the RAM.

Oh one more thing, remove any PCMCIA devices as a test also.

Currently the 1200 is sitting on my desk, opened up with no keyboard, no card, no nothing. :-)

There are one or two jumpers on this card. I just do not know what they do. I *think* I have the manual. I do have the box and the disk.. manual should be in there as well.

Used to have one of THESE too in the beginning, a very good card with a maximum of 128 Mb you can put on it. On the other hand I have always had problems trying to fit another A1200 card on the connector, it rarely boots up from the first time, usually only after the fourth or fifth time. In the beginning it was very depressing but now I am used to it  :lol:

The crystal on my card is raised a bit higher so I cannot close the trapdoor slot. This is a NIB 1200 so I hope the slot isn't hosed :-) I have a couple other cards I can try but none as nice as this!

 One jumper (J1) is intended to inform the board the FPU is clocked by the same crystal of the CPU, or from a different one.

 The other jumper (J2) is there for factory settings (don't mess with it!). If you do so your Amiga will explode, your hair will fall, your dog will scape, your wife gonna fat, etc, etc. Kidding, just don't mess with this little fellow (J2), keep it open.

 Those boards only need the software to add RAM when use ks3.0.

 The dual boot is when you use the software "autoxa" (some sort of rekick), supplied with the board. Who copy the ROM contents to RAM, trap the vectors and reboot.

What about a hard drive? Could it be that the A1200 is simply waiting for a boot drive and will give you a screen after 15 seconds or so? How long have you waited?

I know you knew this but sometimes we forget that the A1200 will hang for awhile before giving that waiting for disk screen if there is no HD.

I think I tried it with a known working HD. I would boot to 3.1 when the card is not plugged in. I know the 1200 and 4000 wait a minute or so to scan the IDE bus but I don't think this is whats happening.

Is this a mystery card or is it "known to be working" by the person you bought it from?

It is a mystery card. I bought about 2 truck loads of stuff from a studio in West Hollywood last year (for a song, too). This is one of the items.

I used to have this accel card.  When times it didnt work was because it wasnt seated in fully or it was seated in, but not aligned right, least then a colored screen would come up.  Dont think it would be the Amiga itself.  The card is either shot or the actual CPU isnt working....  They did get hot.  Probably should try getting another 68030 of the same speed and see what that will do for you.

I have another accelerator I am going to try. This way I can eliminate the Amiga as the culprit.
