More Amiga Inc BS
« on: June 06, 2007, 04:32:18 PM »
I stumbled across this in a post from ffastback.  I know it is from the category of dead horse, but this is amusing in a BS shoveling sort of way.

Article is from the Kent Reporter

'City of Kent waits for word on Amiga’s payment'

From the article:
"Amiga’s corporate board has to approve the $2.5 million payment, McEwen said recently"

Gee, maybe McBill should have gotten the approval *before* starting the ball rolling on the whole deal, huh?

We should make of list of things Amiga Inc. should have done like...

If you're going to make a contract with someone to CREATE and operating system for you....

maybe KEEP A COPY of it WITH SIGNATURES!

A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1)
Back in my day, we didn\'t have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we\'d just have to shove them together.

Um, maybe the approval has something to do with the fact that the original deal was changed by asking for money now instead of when the construction starts?

But anyways.. It is going to be interesting to see whether amiga inc is still the same or if they have changed for the better. Now we will get our answer within a few days.   :-)

@Tomas

Yup. They changed the deal.

City officials asked Amiga two weeks ago for the first payment sooner than originally planned after recent news reports of past financial problems involving the company. When the naming rights were announced in April, the city had asked Amiga for the $2.5 million payment when construction of the events center starts.

I would think, though, that Amiga could refuse the early payment and just procede as originally agreed. But, from that article, it looks like the Kent people are playing hard ball and are threatening to not go forward with construction if Amiga doesn't pay early. Too bad that would mean no minor league jockey in Kent, though. The people of Kent sure picked some winners to put on the city council.

So if Bill McEwen told you to quit your job and he promises to start paying your bills ...to "not worry about it.. I'll handle it", you'd do so?

I think its a smart move.  Kent moves forward and ends up getting burned.. AI gets sued, has nothing to be taken away so that leaves Kent in the hole.

Smart move City of Kent!!!    :-)

WOW the Amiga Corporate board-that sounds big  :-D
Sounds like Amiga is just so huge a company now that 2.5 mil should be like me spending a penny.  Well hopefully for Bill he can produce the 2.5 mil quicker than he's been able to produce anything for us... oh wait we're still waiting LOl

Not so.  The corporate sponsorship helped push through the state funding according to one article.  With that secured they don't need the corporate sponsorship to proceed, it was extra revenue for it.  The corporate naming deal sponsorship was a means to an end at one time and after achieveing state funding is merely the cherry on top.  And Kent has pointed out they feel they will have no issues finding another sponsor (at least not at this point now).

That might be a good play for them at this point if they never intended to pay.  In that scenario they could claim they would pay at the originally agreed to time only, saying the Amiga board did not appreciate being strong-armed.

What I find most amusing from all this that Kent officials claim they knew of the issues ahead of time, yet they now want early payment because the issues came to light more recently?  I suppose they may say it had to do with the degree to which things came to light, but it still seems fishy all around.

Not really, they say they will simply find another company to deal with. They would probably just go to the second highest bidder if AInc. fails to show. I wouldn't be surprised if Kent is already in communication with whoever the backup funder is.

I guess it's a safe bet that nobody from Kent was ever given a demo of the Amiga pizza-ordering technology, either.

Remeber AmigaWorld mag..reading about Commodore's bankruptcy, Viscorp and other failed deals?  The remember wanting to say something but all you could do is write to AW magazine hoping someone would publish your frustration?

thanks to the net, now you can!  get the latest and greatest (or worst) news ASAP.

I'd be embarassed if I was Billy and co.

Well, lets us take 2 big steps back.....

They couldn't quite come come up with and even manage to keep track of $25,000 to BUY their own Operating System, that they say is the CORNER STONE of their business!!

So how likely is they be able to just whip out $2,500,000.00 in approx 2 weeks???

Well, I guess we all now how long 2 weeks means in Bill M. Speak don't we?  I guess it's time for the City of Kent to learn it now

oh man, now what will happen to all thoose who thought AmigaInc was on a roll?.

Sadly i myself doubt AmigaInc will ever do any real progress, best thing they did was to outsource AmigaOS (3.5 and up) and ofcourse now it seems they want to keep it in-house, ohwell...Amigaland is as usual...rotten but still fun.
Whats up with all the hate!
