commodore international corporation....
« on: April 06, 2007, 03:25:56 AM »
I havent seen any talk of the new commodore company here.. they are selling high end gaming PC's. (on sale from the 15th of this month) this is a good start if the company can start making a profit from here. they also are selling the "gravel" wifi mp3/video player. it actually looks good. reviews have been good apart from the name. i have been emailing the company asking whether they have any plans to support amiga OS. if there was a x86 OS5 they could sell dual boot machines, if they make some money, maybe they could buyout amiga or invest in it.(lord knows they need money to make anythin' happen). they claim to deeply care about commodore's heritage, well they better back amiga then...check out

they have some investors with deep pockets....

You didn't look very hard then.

For example:
BBC News article on Commodore mentions Amiga, Commodore are back...

i have been emailing the company asking whether they have any plans to support amiga OS.

You're wasting your time.

if there was a x86 OS5

But there isn't, and never will be (at least not from any current Amiga Inc).

they claim to deeply care about commodore's heritage, well they better back amiga then.

That's just ridiculous.

i had a look for talk of the new company in here, i typed commodore into the search box, i didnt find many threads talking about this.....geeeez there is such a negative ora in here!  its not over till the fat {bleep} sings.
she hasnt sung yet. no matter how much you feel it is inevitable, things can change.there is starting to be an acceptance of "alternative OS's" now in the mainstream. maybe amiga inc wont be the ones to do it, but maybe someone else will.... If i didnt look hard, show me the threads talking about this issue plz, id luv to read them......

It's a regular PC, nothing more.

The closest "Amiga" on it will be is a) WinUAE b) AROS.

it may be a PC, but if they make some money, there may be a different story

Don't take it personally, we've all just had a loooong run of bad news and bad luck for Amiga, and recently it looks gloomier than ever. I don't think folks are trying to be mean, but the darker side of humor is definitly showing. I'm guilty too.

As for your question, many of us wish the new Commodore well, but we don't see it helping Amiga. So the chatter is kinda cool on the subject. You can read a bit more feed back about it over here on another thread.

Commodore moves forward

Well, I disagree. I predict they will rip off people with expensive gaming rigs, and that's it. They're happy to mention the old systems, as it helps market their new stuff (just look at the amount of free press they've gotten). Obviously these guys have no connection with the original Commodore at all. It's just an attempt to cash in using the well known name.

They've pretty much taken an "alienware" approach, and applied the Commodore logo. Nothing really wrong with that (and I suppose it's kinda neat to see the name out there somewhere), just not a product many here are going to be interested in. I'd gather most would rather build their own PC from off-the-shelf parts, rather than pay someone else to do it for them.

Definitely - get to pick and choose exactly what hardware you want plus, if Windoze is chosen, a clean install of the OS without tonnes of time-limited "free" software clutter! But one of those C= cases would be nice!

I kinda like the case a little too. At one time I might have wanted to get a Mac for a case like that, but not at those insane prices they were offering it for.

Yeah I'm sure it's that retro geek eliteness that wants to be able to show off to people a case with the C= on it.
