Amiga to TFT Display
« on: March 21, 2007, 10:51:39 PM »
Hello guys. I want to ask something. Firstly, I am Achilleas from Greece. Do you know where I can find a scandoubler? I need one in order to connect my Amiga (500) to a TFT display. Do you know if I am going to need anything extra except for that?
Thanks

File Achillea,

A scandoubler/flickerfixer would be the best solution, but they are hard to find and expensive.

Alternatively you can use the A520 TV modulator and connect your Amiga 500 to a TFT-TV or a PC with a TV card (RF or preferably composite). The A520 solution will mean some loss in quality but it is acceptable for most games. You could also get a RGB-Scart cable from AmigaKit for even better picture (no A520 needed in this case).

A number of PAL-->VGA solutions found in ebay should also work with the A520, though your mileage may vary. The subject has been debated to death (search the forums).

If you want to do anything other than games (e.g. draw in DPaint, prolonged workbench usage) then a scandoubler will make your life easier.

Any more questions, keep asking here - there are many, many people around that are far more knowledgeable than I, and are always eager to help. Welcome and feel free to also try www.amigahellas.gr  ;)

Thank you very much guys. I really appreciate it and I hope I find a cheap solution. About the LCD-TV,what connections should it have? I am asking because Amiga has a 23pin to 9pin cable. Am I going to be able to connect it?

Also, do you know where I can get a A520 Modulator? I searched and I saw that it is a little bit difficult to find one. Does anyone sell a A520 TV Modulator or a scandoubler?

I'm pretty sure I have one or two extra A520's somewhere.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll have a look.

Here's a funny looking one on eBay though: link

i bought some months ago an a520 modulator. I recommend try anything else, or hack it, because it's got one of the worst picture you can get. Of course it has some advantage i've got mine from ebay about 5 eur.

Amigakit sometimes sell scandoublers.Maybe software hut too.

No, but you can cut the 9-pin end off and wire on a SCART plug. (Or just buy a new Amiga RGB SCART cable)

Or just use the RF cable as a temporary measure. :-)
