Just received my Algor!
« on: June 10, 2003, 01:58:44 PM »
:-D  :-D  But I can't try it out until I get home from work in just over 5 hours time  :-(

But... I am really impressed with the physical card and packaging. It looks like a really well made card, and it comes with a really professional 13-page manual.

Any chance of posting some pictures (of the card/packaging/manuals etc)?

BTW, why did u pick the Algor over the Spider, since you have a mediator? :-)

Yeah. I'm borrowing a digicam to take pics for Total Amiga. I might put a couple on my website.

Because:

A) It comes with a registered Poseidon (and i'm a lazy git, so that saves me some effort)
B) It has a lovely flashrom for me to play with
C) Zorro cards are cool :]

But Zorro slots not :P you will find out that soon :P (yesterday I had to insert 3 zorro cards and took me a lot to do it)

Algor will be my next buy  :-D  and I`d like also when I have the money to subscribe in Amiga magazines Total Amiga, Amitopia and bitplane ;-)

Nahh.. i'm used to it. Across my two Zorro-equipped Amigas, I have a PowerFlyer, Repulse, Cybervision 64/3D, GVP IOExtender, and an AmigaNET network card. It just takes a bit of practice really, theres a "knack" to it. The Mediator 4000 itself is like a "full length" zorro card, too.

The hardest card I ever installed was a Picasso IV in my friends Amiga 4000 (this was about 4 years ago now). We put the 4000 against the wall, and pushed the PIV as hard as we could. It went in with a loud "CRACK!". Very scary, but it worked fine

I have to admit, it cost a lot of money for what is essentially a new toy to play with, but thats what credit cards and irresponsibility are for  :-D

I got it from KDH. Click here for the product page.

Oh you just got an algor did you??? Welll......well......

hmmm nothing controversial about that...move along people....

Hey, i also have an Amiga product waiting for me at home...My towerized Amiga 1200 finally arrived.  Wow, it seems like 100 years ago that I ordered it, 9 days to get here! LOL....

It has a PowerTower case and Mediator and PCI network card...flicker fixer/scan doubler.

It's not exactly going to scorch the earth, I will need to add a video card, the 80mb disk it comes with is just insulting...that will be replaced quickly...but it should be fun! woo hooo

oh yes and os 3.9

but nothing really new like an algor...

Hooray! Shame its a 1200 tower though, I'm glad I ditched mine for a 4000. I mean, the 1200 is a nice machine as it is, but I'm not a big fan of towerised 1200 monsters :-D Still, I hope you enjoy it.

Thats alright. I enjoy getting second hand Amiga gear as much as I enjoy getting new Amiga gear; I just love fiddling with Amigas :-D

I know what you mean....I really thought seriously about an A4000....of all the classic Amiga's, its going to have the most throughput....

but this machine was such a good bargain and it technically met all my requirements, I went for the bargain, what can I say, I'm cheap.

my requirements where simple, CPU with full MMU, ethernet card, OS 3.9 and cd-rom drive, hook up to VGA monitor.

WOW...it just barely met my requirements, but amazing that it did, with no further expansions...and I got it cheap.

Now, I will add a bigger hard drive and a voodoo3, cause its clearly just wrong, very wrong, to have graphics card capability and not add one...

but after my program is done, its probably time to sell this bugger and get something better....probably a PPC motherboard.
