REXX-controlled animation player?
« on: February 23, 2007, 10:18:57 PM »
Hi,

Anyone know of a good REXX-controllable animation player?  I would like something which can play back Extra Half-Brite modes, and it doesn't have to be AGA.  It would have to support Medium or Hi-Res modes and overscan, and preferably also support animation formats greater than Anim5, such as Op8 from Brilliance.

I would like to be able to control the program to load, play back, and stop the anim via AREXX.

I would like to use Bars & Pipes's "ANIMal" tool, but it only supports lo-res.  So it's out of the question.  I think my anims will be 340x400 interlaced EHB mode with full overscan.

Any ideas?  :-? It could be a standalone program or even a paint program like Personal Paint or Deluxe Paint.  But it would have to multitask with Bars & Pipes and Studio16.  Maybe SCALA would be a good way to go?  Any tips are welcome.

Thanks,
trilobyte
(wishing Brilliance had AREXX  :-( )

Did you try Scala?

As far as I know, Scala is ARexx addressable and supports a wide range of ANIM opt codes and display modes ... and Scala does handle interlaced EHB with fulll overscan.

I'm not sure if Scala plays ANIM-8 files as well, I didn't have such files to test that. But maybe you consider using Scala's AnimLab, a utility program to convert  anims in Scala's own 32bit anim format (which it plays pretty fast).

Yes, I think you're right, and Scala is probably the way to go.

Thanks for the tip,
