As to the real fate of CBM, I get the impression that most late management, especially management brought in, just figured it was doomed for not focusing on the growing and lucrative 'IBM'/Windows market and acted 'appropriately.' Since none of the other players left (excluding failing Atari, struggling Apple, and layoff-happy IBM) were very reliant on in-house R&D, CBM was in a rough position no matter what... and Hombre-as-a-GPU could've been the product to make the R&D business profitable, but by then the looting was in full swing.
