Games on my 3000
« on: January 11, 2007, 08:16:15 PM »
So I was curious... In everyone's experience, which games do not run properly or at all on a later model Amiga (3000,4000)?  I have an Amiga 500 I have been thinking of selling if most of the stuff will run on my new 3000.  I have the capability to turn on/off the accelerator, so that should help with most right?

Your best bet would be to use WHDLoad which installs games on HD and makes them work with faster CPU's, more memory and newer versions of Workbench. Also you can start and quit games from Workbench. A lot of games are supported; take a look at www.whdload.de

It may also be worth looking at some of the software-based degraders (originally made for the A1200) such as TUDE, though I agree WHDLoad is probably the best solution.

I checked out WHDload, but there really isn't a ton of games supported yet... at least the ones I have.  I know you are able to write your own scripts, but I have no idea how to do that.

You must have some rare games you want to play! WHDLoad supports hundreds of games...

Then you should take a look at degraders like InTheSand said and you may need to disable your accelerator.

@mschafe

If WHDLoad fails, you should try RunIt. You can download it from AmiNet.
You could try this command in a script with old games:
"Runit VBase SetOLD"
"any game".
Works fine for me with most games. :-)

I have found about 75% of the old games I have on disk (I have a lot of games on disk, haha) run fine on my 3000 towers if I disable the cache from boot menu and choose ocs display. Some even require pal. If you do not wish to wear out a floppy drive I would also suggest WHDLoad. I have found even some 1200 games run, like Zool but the screen sometimes messes up.

I tried out WHDload, but some of the games need the kickstart 1.3 ROM file loaded on the computer.  I'll need to drag out the 500 and copy the 1.3 rom off that to play a few games I have.  I'll also give Runit a try..  THANKS!
