Locking key for A4000
« on: November 16, 2006, 03:10:13 PM »
To make my A4000 look a bit more complete (call me a nutcase for this :-) ) I would like to have a key stuck in the keyboard lock.

Can I use any standard old PC-key or do I have to look for something specific?

remember though, it won't be "mint" if you use something other than the original key...  :-D

Are you talking about the lock and key on the cpu case of the A4000d?  If so, I just so happen to have one of those.  Its yours if you want it, just buy the stamp.  :)

I was just thinking the same yesterday! But surely all 4000 keys can't be the same?

I wouldn't mind having one of those either. I was thinking of taking the mechanism to a locksmith to see if they could make a key for it.

At one of the St Louis Gateway shows we spent an hour on the show floor after lunch trying to "repair" someones' misfunctioning A4000D, re-seating all the boards, including the processor board, trying other keyboards, etc, and it just wouldn't take input. The place was full of Amiga experts, I think even Jens was consulted. Then the owner embarassingly remembered he had turned the switch before going to lunch to keep people from messing with his machine ...

Since then and even now, I keep a A4000D key on my keyring! You never know when you might find a locked A4000. Looking at it, this one has the number 1502 stamped on it, if that is any help.

IIRC, all those Amiga 'keys' are exactly the same (it might slightly different from PC or HDD rack) and very very simple, you could actually use screwdriver or similar to open the 'lock'.

I don't want to use a screwdriver, heck, I don't really even plan to use the lock at all, but it's just to make the A4000 complete. :-)

Ah, another typical case of "You know you're an Amiga addict when....."

It's the same key as in ancient AT cases.
