CDFS Long file names and Nero Express

Well folks, once again I am stunned at how things are done inthe PC world...

In order to burn file names longer than 8+3, how can I do this with Nero Express. I can't see any options to allow for greater than 8+3.

Or, is there another CD buring application I can use -- free <-- I just paid of the CD burner and not about to pay for another.

Eh, wtf you're on about? Nero does long filesnames just fine (Joliet), and it does them by default.

It's not Nero's fault you're using some old filesystem that doesn't do joliet.

Perhaps if you new a little about the Joliet you'd know that it writes in 8+3, but with joliet it will interpret the long file names from data saved to the CD. But when read off Amiga of Linux, it does not understand joliet.

So before you go off acting condescending, perhaps you should read up yourself!

No {bleep} sherlock? It's no joliet though, the 8+3 names are regular iso9660, while joliet is extension to it. That's why non-joliet capable filesystems only show the 8+3, or potentially the rockridge extension names (upto 31 chars). Native amiga cd-rom's use RockRidge (both file/dir names and protection bits), but most pc burning software don't support that. Anyway, if your burning software supports "ISO Level 2", that will give you 31 char names. That should be ok for AOS 3.1 cd filesystem, except that it doesn't handle amiga protection bits (thus you might not be able to execute binaries from such cd... depends a bit). Some nero versions have option for "ISO Level 2"

But when read off Amiga of Linux, it does not understand joliet.

Linux iso9660 filesystem supports joliet. Good amiga cd filesystems support joliet.

So before you go off acting condescending, perhaps you should read up yourself!

I am using Amiga OS3.1 and it is not reading Joliet. I get 8+3 filenames. It appears that it does nto support joliet in this version.

I'll blame this on XP -- reinstalled the Buringing software and this time Amiga was able to read the long filenames....

Blame ISO.  XP has nothing to do with it.

Hm, I vaguely remember too I had difficulties burning RockRidge iso's on my pc. IIRC I solved it with some app. called MagicISO to make iso's in RockRidge format and burn 'em with Alcohol 120% in RAW-DAO mode

RockRidge is an ISO extended version of the standard ISO format.

Nero Express is the "I havent a clue what im doing" version of Nero, you shouldnt expect it to cover ever eventuality.  If you are doing something none-standard (ie something not for Windows) then you should be using Nero Burning ROM which is the FULL version of Nero that lets you customise exactly what YOU want.

You cant blame Nero for you not knowing how to use it correctly.  Thats like blaming AmigaDOS for you not knowing how to configure your startup-sequence correctly.  :crazy:

Actually, you should blame it on the el cheapo (free) version of Nero your using, and the CDFS you're using on the Amiga. Amiga OS isn't the problem, your CDFS is.

If you wanna talk about lame, there's this non-amiga program that came with my CD burner and when it gets to file names too long, it asks you to edit them. Turns out that of the too-long filenames I have, I have a lot of them. So, when I tried to backup my files I kept forgetting about the long long file names and the stupid program goes into "please rename these 100 files manually, individually, no i won't offer a cancel button" mode. I ended up just archiving the files into a short named file for backuping. Lame.

I hate Nero Express with a passion!!! When ever I go over to someones house, and ask if they have CD burning software, they are like , "Yes I do!" Come to find out they have Nero Express. Doing stuff with that verison just sucks. It's like sucking on lemon flavored barbed-wire.

Even I back in the day broke down and actually paid for a license for Nero (Yes I actually PAID for it, even though it's Nero 6.) For what I've used it for, it has served me will, time and time again.
