I started to add the following things to my A600:

Slim CDrom drive
Clockport adapter
Hard drive
buffered ide
1mb ram expansion

I now have them all in the A600 case.

I have the ide buffer configured like this:

44pin channel 1 = 2.5" 1gb Harddrive
40pin channel 2 = slimline cdrom

When installing idefix and searching for cdroms it gets round to scanning the atapi.device and says an atapi device has been found but appears not to be working correctly check cables etc and master/slave settings.

I have it running on a brick psu so it has enough power.

I have tried different ide cables also.

Any ideas.

My cdrom is a teac 224e with the jae>40pin adapter.

Pic of everything inside the A600 case:

The clockport adapter is under the ide cable and the hard drive is under the ide buffer

can you try standard IDE CD-rom on that channel?
OR as slave on primary channel?
too lazy to use shift key properly...

I will pull my cdrom out of my A1200 but I cant put the cdrom on as the slave on channel 1 as I dont have a 2.5>3.5 adapter handy.

EDIT: I tried using the big cdrom but it didnt seem that the brick psu had enough power as nothing booted up.

The 4-way adapter should have two connectors for channel 1, one 2.5" and one 3.5". You can connect the master to the 2.5" connector and the slave to the 3.5" connector. Just make sure that channel 1 does not have two masters or two slaves.

Then IMHO the problem with the slimline CD-ROM is a power issue, too. You should try to run the CD-ROM without the HDD connected and powered (run the drivers from floppy disk). If it then works, it is a power problem.

Ok I attached them both to channel 1. Same problem.

I detached the hard drive, booted from floppy with the cdrom on channel 1 and when scanning through atapi.device it couldnt find anything.

I think this is definately a master/slave problem.

The jae>ide doesnt have jumpers although there is an area where you can add jumpers by soldering them on.

The options given for these are Cable select, Hi and Lo. Are Hi/Lo the same as master/Slave?

My 2.5" cdrom is currently not jumpered. As with most laptop cdrom drives there are 4 spare pins for use with jumpers but I dont know the settings for these.

I don't think so. If the CD-ROM is the only drive, then it should be recognised no matter if it is master or slave.

I wouldn't call it showing up if it tells you your cabling is bad.

Ok well I have the jumper settings for my HD and someone is kindly soldering on jumpers to the jae>ide adapter so it should be a lot easier to set master/slave combos.
