Picasso IV Flicker Fixer problem
« on: June 19, 2006, 01:07:51 AM »
Hi,

Recently bought a 2nd hand (obviously ;) )Picasso IV card, and put it in my a4000 desktop.

The problem is that the flicker fixer does not appear to be working.  :(

The tracks from the little "break off" video slot board are fine.  When I power on the a4k, I just get a blank white screen - even if I boot of a demo disk etc for instance.

Checked all the jumpers (no manual but found info on web site) and they are ok.  Ran "P4Info" tool and it says that the FF is active?

Tried it in another A4k, and the problem remains, so I don't think its my A4k.

Any idea what this could be?

Have you installed the drivers? My Picasso displayed garbage until i installed the RTS software..btw I'm also using A4000 rev. B. You need to use the A4000s video out first to install the drivers, I used two monitors at first..

hope this helps..

Thanks - actually managed to find that thread earlier.

I get nothing other than a blank screen for "normal" picturs through the flicker fixer, no matter what the source (early startup, games etc).

I have managed to get into the PIV early startup screen, and reverted to defaults and saved, but this has had no effect.  :(

The RTG modes work fine though - so it looks like the problem is definately FF related?

My FliFi chips did once creap up so it stopped to work - I think there were 2 PLCC ones that needed a push back into their sockets.
Does your monitor support 50 Hz? (if it's what the FliFi is supposed to output)
What happens if you press when on PIV early startup screen - it toggles between default and programmed FliFi output (if programmed)

I've pushed and proded all the plcc/socketing chips, to no avail.

The monitor does support 50hz.  Screen "lights up" so to speak with a light grey/blank screen, and monitor gets a valid signal (power light stays green) - just appears to be that theres no picture to show?

On the startup menu, I press space and all is seems to do is change the frequency of the picture in the monitor (on my worn out 1942) - but still no output on the pc monitor.

Guess it looks like the ff is beyond repair?

Maybe; does P4info find the Flifi and what's the version of the firmware - perhaps a flash could wake it up. Hope this link works.

You must first reflash back to 1.11 (I think) and then  back to 7.1 or 7.4 - practically they are the same, only addon support differs. 1.11 should be on picassogroups file area.
What I understand the FliFi seems OK, with the latest chips.
