I just had to replace the fan on my cyberstorm ppc, which also meant unclipping the heatsink. The top of the powerpc chip had a metal plate, which the heatsink sat on top of. 2 metal clips hold the heatsink firmly in place. what I found odd, is that there was no heat conducting compound on the plate. (Although the fan was not original so someone might have removed it), or perhaps it has no paste for a reason (Such as the clips hold the heatsink tight against the metal plate, and compound would reduce the heat transfer).
What do you think ? Did the card originally ship with some paste on the plate between the chip and heatsink. I have applied a small amount of paste and the machine seem to be running fine.
Also, the fan is blowing "onto" the heatsink. Can I just check this is the usual set-up for the cyberstorm ppc. (The previous fan was the same)
