Monitor Woes

Well, my 1084 just died on me.  Any suggestions as to a new monitor?  (Ive got a Dell flatscreen that I could probably hook up to the A500--but I think it detracts from the retro feel of the Amiga)

Hi,
download the manual for you release and the equivalent Philips/Magnavox/Atari model and go to a good repair shop with that, they might help you (lot of components are still avaible !!).

You could always look on it as an opportunity to track down a Microvitec 1764...

Will an LCD TV display all of the Amiga modes?  If so which models?

A500?
A1200?

An LCD TV will accept TV broadcasts in PAL/NTSC so will accept a standard 15Khz Amiga signal via a Scart(/peritel), RCA phono composite or RF socket.

Most LCD TVs will offer 640x480, the better branded ones will have 800x600 and 1024x768 resolution capability.

Some might have Scart AND VGA port.

All LCD TVs should work on all models of Amiga. However I have not yet tried one personally. Modes like Multiscan Productivity would need to be connected to a VGA port on such a screen.

You can get good AOC 20" 800x600 LCD TVs now for about 250 GBP. Fine if you're just using the custom chips and not wanting to be too fussy with the graphics cards etc.

Have a look at my gallery pictures. Some of them show off my LCD TV, which has a SCART input for the Amiga's 15KHz signal, and a VGA input which can display up to 1024x768.

I'd suggest you try to get it repaired. Is there a TV repair shop anywhere near you?
