A2000 Question again
« on: April 28, 2003, 02:56:00 AM »
Okay ROM queston again. since it seems like its going to be rather difficult in finding a good  place to buy 2000 (500/600/2000) 3.1 Chips.  and since I'm hesitant to put a want Ad on amibench.

Is there any device that'll let me run 1200 roms in the A2000, like those 'rom switchers' for example. Or, can I make one. (Having a teacher that'd love for me to cut precision plastic stuff, I could make it a project, and it'd be very cheap to do then.)

;-) I doubt it.  Even if the pin count is the same, The A1200 version has support for hardware that the A2000 lacks, such as the PCMCIA slot and so on.  One of the things the ROM does is to check the hardware on boot up.  If the ROM cannot find the hardware it expects, I suspect you'll get an error report such as a flashing colored screen every time you turn the 'miggy on.

I do not recommend mixing roms and Amiga models. there are electronic and other differences that would make such a mix a dead end. You can get A2000 Kickstart 3.1 ROMS for around $29.95.

See Softhut and look under 3.1 OS Kits for prices...
