Fitting a Hard Drive into A1200?
« on: April 16, 2006, 05:46:42 PM »
Hi guys,

I have just bought a 4gb hard drive for my A1200, I have found the cradle and have the correct cable.

However I am worried about fitting it as I heard that the metal of the hard drive shouldn't touch the metal cradle as it could knacker the drive?

Is this correct? If so, how am I supposed to fit the hard drive?

Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question, but I am really new at this!

I'm not sure, but actually its supposed to touch the cradle in order to ground it.

BTW, is it possible to find(/build?) somehere that cradle thingy. I bought A1200 second hand long time ago without HDD and previous owner wouldn't give it because 'its part of HDD'..  :pissed:

Well that would make more sense...

Someone on ebay was saying that they would send instrructions on how to fit it so it didn't touch the cradle?!?

Can anyone else confirm this?

@kiniki

In my experience, all hard drive cases, including the small laptop drives used in Amiga 1200s, are in direct contact with the carrier/chassis/earth of the computer. Talk of insulating them sounds like nonsense to me. How would you insulate the screws going into the case sides?

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

@orange

I suspect that the A1200 HD carrier is a standard laptop IDE drive holder. If not it can't be very different and I'm sure you can adapt it to do the job. You often see these going for a few pounds on eBay.

Chgeers,
