Amiga 1200 floppy drive issue
« on: April 01, 2006, 10:23:15 PM »
Hi all,

I have been given an old Amiga 1200 of a friend of mine and decided to get it up and running again. It has a hard drive with workbench 3 installed on it. The machine boots fine and will run software of the hard drive.
The problem is with the floppy drive. It will recognise that a disk has been put in but will displays a message saying Virus Checker II can not read boot block for viruses. After this the disk icon appears with DF0: ????. I've tried several disks and even tried replacing the drive with another but I'm still having the same problem.

Anyone got any ideas? Ive got a box full of old games that I can't wait to have a play on again!

Thanks

Scott

it's obvius that the program virus checker run at start up of the amiga and checking all the floppys you put in.
search at boot partition (usualy named System) in directory WBStartup. maybe you will find there this program. if yes, for the moment move it from there to directory tools. reboot.
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9

MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

Hi, welcome to A.Org!

You may also find that your game disks are designed to be run by rebooting the Amiga with the disk in the drive, rather than from the Workbench environment.

Not sure how familiar you are with the Amiga, but in case you don't know, pressing CTRL, left-Amiga and right-Amiga causes a reboot (the "Amiga" keys are the ones with "A" on them in the Amiga typeface, next to the "Alt" keys).

So to run your games, switch on the Amiga, insert the game disk, wait for any disk activity to stop, then reboot and the game should load.

Thanks for the advice. As of let no joy getting it to boot with any of the game disks. Though interestingly it will see disk that are put into an external drive I borrowed of  a friend of mine (its amazing what people have in attics)
I havent managed to track down the antivirus file to disable that but i will give it another go.

Thanks again ill yet you know if i solve the problem.
