Is there a difference between an A4000 and an ATX Power supply?

Hey,
I have been having troubles with my new Tower setup that I did for my A4000D seen
here
and I am using a 350watt ATX power supply with the ATX to A4000 power supply adapter. Everything is running great except the Video Toaster Flyer system. I have tried several times folowing the instructions to the letter in doing an "auto hue" but I get
this
once it is done. I have done everything right and it worked just fine before when it was still in the desktop.
I have had it auto hue correctly a couple of times but as soon as I reboot the Amiga and restart the T/F it does the same thing.

I don't see the connection with your topic question and your problem. From your power setup you have more than enough power to run your tower. Your display appears to have a gauss problem not a color hue problem. If you are displaying your miggy to a CRT monitor try degausing the screen when this happens.

The picture you see is the output of the toaster to a video monitor not the Amiga video out (that is fine). The genlock seems to also be affected as when I exit the toaster the workbench screen of the toaster video out is all messed up as well.
I heard some time back that the Amigas power supply has some sort of "time tick" that helps in some sort of way.

the a3000 does and there is a jumper on the mobo that you can set to have the mobo produce the tick instead of the psu. i dont know about the 4000 though, but there may be a jumper like that. ill check my links to find 4000 jumpers

yes it does and there is a hack on aminet for making a small pcb that will generate the Tick signal, its a very simple board.
A friend of mine made Protel PCB for Tick, here it is:

genlocks use the tick
as far as i can tell there is no tick jumper on the 4000, so you will have to use the pcb project to produce it. on the 3000 if you set the jumper everything that uses tick works like normal, presumably with that project the 4000 will have similar capability
this and similar are the most complete 4000 jumper docs i could find
here

There's a tuning pot on the toaster card that may need to be tweaked. It's called Center Frequency Adjustment.
CENTER FREQUENCY ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE:
Hopefully this is all it needs. Good luck

What kind of ATX->A4000 PSU adapter are you using? Apparently, there are a few dodgy ones going around, with too thin wiring. If this is the case, your A4000 & addons might not be getting enough current, especially on the +5vdc line.

I have the ATX to A4000 adapter you mention but I was able to beef up the +5 volt wire by adding a second thicker wire to pin 6 and running it to another unused +5v pin on the ATX power adapter. I think I will try to do the CF adjustment later today as I think that may be my trouble as I tried hooking up my old A4000 power supply yesterday and it made no difference so it must be the CF adjustment that needs tunning.

Hmmmm, I did the CF today and it was almost bang on. I hardly had to adjust it at all and it made no difference to how my "autohue" looks after its done. I am just at a loss as if I am persistant it will sometimes work just fine.
Could a poor ground cause this problem? as I only started to have this problem once I moved it to the tower case. But the A4000 works just fine its only the Toaster thats flaky. :-?

have you tryed to reconnect the original A4000T PSU? (for testing)
Which tower have you used? is the mobo correctly grouded with the case?
The PSU quality output, is crucial for the VCO.

Hello Ftamiga,
Yes the MB has a good ground and I have tried with both the original power supply and the ATX and neither seems to make any difference.
I used the a tower that I had from my old P-III and everything fit nicely, a picture is found
here
.
At first I thought it may have been a lack of the "tick" that the amiga power supply has but that dose not seem to be the problem.
