Hi, just celebrating!
« on: February 08, 2006, 09:01:19 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've just received my A4000/040 through the post today from Germany and I'm chuffed to bits, so I thought I'd finally register and introduce  :-D.
I've wanted one of these beasts since I was a wee lad destroying joysticks on my A500 (which incidentally is now listed on Ebay  :lol: )!

I'll probably have a few bone questions over the next few days  but for now I'm enjoying tinkering.  I already have two A1200 (apollo030 and blizzard060) but for me the A4000 was always the daddy.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

Hi and welcome to Amiga.Org, and welcome the 4000 Club.

He he. Okay make sure you can get ahold of a nice IDE CD-ROM, unless you are going to go SCSI. Might wanna get 3.1 ROMS for that puppy.  Also make sure that you are careful with your SIMM sockets or you are gonna have to replace those (the ram like to creep off them sometimes.)

Make note of the Buster version you have, and yeah. Check your  battery to see if it's not leaking and check the caps too see if they are leaking.

Have fun with your Amiga 4000. Yeah I have 2 A4000D's myself, an Amiga 2000, and I'm about to build me a Amiga 4000 customer  tower.

Cheers! :pint:

Hey, Welcome to AO.

The A4000 In my opinion the best Amiga ever made (but not the best built the 3000T gets that vote).
Try and get yourself a Cyberstorm eccelorator for it and You will be happy for years.

Enjoy :-D

I have given the machine the expert-once-over-appraisal(tm).

* Comes with 8x IDE CD-ROM installed
* Buster v11 installed
* Battery looks uberclean, brand new infact
* 2x internal High Density Floppy drives
* Kickstart 3.0 (3.1 just ordered)
* 850mb HD (2.5" 80GB about to go in, waiting for bracket and adapter, also just ordered  :-D )
* 16MB(4x4MB) Fastram and 2MB CHIP in the SIMM slots

I got this for £220, is that a decent price? (not that I really care... I'm happy! :lol: ).

I am going to install OS3.9 and my shedload of Games when the ROMs arrive.  I find using a USB hard drive enclosure attached to my laptop to hotswap the miggy hard drive from my PC (under WinUAE) to an Amiga is a great way to test new ideas, backup for an inevitable journey up the creek and generally transfer stuff, anyone else do this?

Anyone have any ideas that would be fun to do with this, I have loads but no-one covers every angle right? :-D

Not a bad price at all.

So much to do with an Amiga 4000, dont even know where to begin. I use mine mostly for editing videos and Lightwave 3D. The Video Toaster is loads of fun but its only NTSC so its not very usable for you.
