Question about PCMCIA cards

Hello guys!
Im having the chance of getting a cheap 3Com PCMCIA Etherlink III model 3C589D-TP, to set a network between my PC & my Amiga 1200. Since im not sure if this model actually works, im asking here if anybody has it, or had it in the past, working in a 1200.

I have been reading a lot, and in Aminet i found that model 3C589D (without the "TP") is reported to work well..

So if anybody can confirm about this, i will be very thankfull

Have a look at 3c589.lha on Aminet. It supports your model of card.

Well, you have the card, you have the drivers...why not just try it?

"TP" just means it has a connection for twisted pair cable only. It should work fine.

@DJ Base, i dont have the card YET...i have the chance of getting at a very fair amount of money, but before i do that investment, i just wanted to make sure im choosing the right one..

so TP means just Twisted Pair..my idea is to hook both the PC & the Amiga to a hub, to share internet and information (i guess i will have to install Samba as well)

Anyway, you have encouraged me now, i will buy it now!

you don't need the hub at all if you have only one pc. you only need a ''cross ftp cable'' that you can buy it for less than 5 euros. the hub is nesecery for three computers and up.   :rtfm:

@amije : but i have dsl broadband...and only 1 ethernet card on the pc...so i must use a hub in order to share my internet connection..right??? im a little confused now...

but you didn't say anything first... yes you need a hub then and a straight cable. But if your dsl modem has more than one ethernet outputs (mine has four) you just plug the cable from the amiga to one of the 2nd/3rd/4th plugs of the dsl.

unfortunately i have a modem with only 1 cable, so i must use a hub then, and build me 2 nice straight cables...

You need either

1. A PC with two ethernet ports (1 connected to Broadband) acting as a Gateway.  The other ethernet port connected with a crossed ethernet cable to the Amiga.  

 OR

2. A PC with a Broadband USB modem and 1 ethernet port connected with a crossed ethernet cable to the Amiga.

 OR

3. A broadband router acting and the PC and Amiga's ethernet ports connected directly into it.

You will then need a TCP/IP stack etc for the Amiga

Disadvantage with options 1 & 2: PC must be switched on whilst the Amiga is on the 'net.

I use the 3C589D-TP card with my A1200. It works fine with Genesis (from OS3.9) using the 3C589 device from Aminet. I use it to transfer files between the PC and the A1200 with AExplorer and  I share the ADSL internet connection from my PC so I can access the internet on my A1200.

I don't know if it works with Miami.

I don't think there's need to wait with PayPal, the e-mail code comes within seconds and the bank verification isn't your only method of payment if you can put a Debit/Credit card on file for instant payment from A-B.

Just out of curiosity, if broadband is now exceeding 8Mbit/s then how will the A1200's PCMCIA port cope? Wouldn't the proposed new 24Mbit/s rates eat CPU for breakfast?
