@HMetal

Actually, when I think about it, I'm glad that Amiga Inc used Darreck's design.  It was a design created from the heart of the community.  While it did look much better in 1998, there is still a history that is distinctly Amiga with that design.

An idea for you as the webmaster of Amiga.com HMetal:  Why not have a gallery of sorts showing screenshots of Amiga.com's changes through it's history? ;-)  No one said you couldn't have a little fun right?

(translation:  we are getting close to bickering, and this thread should be more fun than that!)
Regards,
Targhan

@Smaug2

As the ONLY true friend that I, and Amiga.org have ever had at Gateway, or even the current owners, Allow me to say you are sorely missed.  I truly hope you can join me and the rest of the "Huntsville Mafia" and honorary guest Kermit at AmiWest in July.

You come, we'll supply the beverages...   Perhaps we'll even get lucky enough to get rousted by the cops again.

@the rest of the Amiga.org membership.

Never speak of situations that you are not aware of.  Darreck Lisle is the ONLY person who has ever worked for any Amiga company who has understood the need and the value of supporting the Amiga community.  Without him and his support in the past, the community you enjoy, and very well this site would not be here today.

It is a fact that until the current owners came into ruling power, this community was thriving, everyone was enthusiastic, and hardly anyone fought over such stupid things as we see today.   I'm not asking for debate, I'm not inviting your opinion.  I'm simply stating the facts as I know them to be.

There are very few people in the world that I will defend where the Amiga is concerned.  Darreck Lisle is one of them.

Wow Wayne, I've never heard you hold someone in such high regard, this guy must of been good.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge but who was Darreck Lisle and what did he do?  I've only been into Amigas since late 98 and netted since 99 and so I'm not too up on Amiga history.

Unfortunately, you're not alone.  Most people left in the community are equally newbies and just never understood what the Amiga was about.

Darreck Lisle was officially the Community Relations person for Gateway's Amiga Inc.  He was -- as I recall -- also the networking guy and about a zillion other things.  Unlike Bill McEwen and "Fleecy" Moss who were merely contractors, he was actually employed by Gateway's Amiga Inc at their corporate offices in South Dakota.

I first contacted Darreck in 1997 with the business proposal for the User Group Network (UGN).  He was the one that got us full support (or at least as much as he could) including the hardware, software, transportation, and ability to broadcast shows.  He also got us a year's hosting at a major ISP and worked very, very hard to support the Amiga community as a whole.

For his trouble, he took a LOT of heat from Gateway and certain members of the community over his brief two year stint.  He also earned the hatred of the current Amiga Inc management -- who as much as I can figure, resented the fact that he's the only one who ever got anything pushed ahead.

Ask Tigger, Ask ltstanfo, ask Kermit Woodall, ask tekmage, ask anyone you want, but Darreck is *the man* where supporting the Amiga community is concerned.

I know from painful first-hand experience that Bill McEwen isn't interested in supporting the community, but if Bill Buck ever asks me for one piece of advice, it would simply be to hire Darreck Lisle on the spot -- if he's interested after all the spit that Gateway and the current Amiga Inc put him through.

@Wayne

You're quite wrong there. Bill and Fleecy are VERY interested in supporting the community.  No offense intended but, you don't believe it or see it because you've got blinders on.

This is not the thread for your life-support agenda.  Like I said, I was not inviting your opinion, nor feedback on the subject.  You forget, I have lived with his lack of interest in supporting the community, I'm not just making this up as I go along.  His hosting of Amiga.org was in his best interest, not that of the community.  These are also the facts as many people (not just me) see them.

Tread carefully because you're now borderline on calling many, many people who cared about the Amiga a liar.

You, working as a contractor for Amiga Inc are the one with the questionable motive for your continual defensive tactics and trolling.

Congratulations Wayne.  I've been here for around five of those years, so the site can't be too bad  :-)  (actually, it's my favourite Amiga newsy site)

Re: Darreck.  I recognised the name as soon as I read it, but couldn't recall anything else (but then I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday).  If he has done all you say, then that's great.  Certainly things were buzzing and moving fast with AI under Gateway - or least appearing to - and a lot of interest in the Amiga was generated.  Something which the current AI have failed to replicate, but it is better to ensure the there is a product out first especially considering all the non-starters of the last ten years (or however long it has been now - I've lost count).

Here's to the next year and an AmigaOne with OS4 (or a Pegasos with MorphOS, but personally I'll be going for the former) :pint:

Hmm.. that should be a wine glass but you get the idea.

@Wayne

Hey, if you don't want my comments, don't solicit them by making your situation apply to everyone who has contact (or in your case, lack of same) with Amiga.  For as many Wayne Hunt's as there are in this situation, there are many others of opposing opinion.

Regardless of our differences in opinion, I still do congratulate you on another year and hope you and amiga.org see many more.  There's no need to see this thread turn into another downward spiral when this should be good news.

Cheers.

Many thanks Wayne, moderators and everyone else.

This site was a big factor in returning me to things Amiga! Be that a good thing or not. ;-)

This is by far one of my favourite sites. Keep up the good work.
