Anything WICO rocked. I had them all, tracakball, bat handle, arcade ball, etc. You could smash them in anger, gnaw on them in frustration, and beat the tar out of the things and they just kept on working. :)

The only one that wasn't great was the one they bought from Epyx -- those broke all the time for me, I was an abusive lad to my joystick...  :furious:

Chalk another one up for the Zipstik!

I have two of them - both the yellow-buttoned variety. They also made a red-buttoned one, but it wasn't as good - just didn't "feel" the same as the classic yellow-buttoned one we all know and love!

Filthy unwashed heathens.

I got two of these in May of 1985.  Best damn joystick.  Ever.  Althought the carbon-impregnated design does wear out after a while.

IIRC, the packaging had "Hi-Toro" on them.  Made before CBM bought them up.

Because of the small size, you could switch from one direction to another so fast that you could actually find small bugs in programs that assumed you couldn't switch from "up" to "right" (for example) in less that 2 clock cycles of a 1MHz 6502. I'd love to see the assembly code for that in Archon.

Archon on the C64 was one such program.  You could move the characters to inappropriate spots on the checkerboard (and off of it) because the incredible speed of the joystick allowed you to change directions before the joy-register checking routines could be exited.

Try it and be amused.

Zipstick is definitely my favourite. It really feels sturdy, like no matter what you do to it, it won't break. And the buttons and stick make a satisfying but not annoying "click".

Look at all the buttons on that!  :-o

Is that a "game timer" on that joystick? LOL!

Yeah, but I only need the upper-left. The other buttons I konsider spare parts.

I never figured out what the point was with that count down timer. "Time to stop playing go outside" alarm?

I am shocked that nobody so far has mentioned the greatest joystick ever:

Suzo The Arcade, as mentioned before with other joysticks this device also can take immense amounts of angry young boy induced abuse.

It would have to be the QUICKSHOT QS-138F AMIGA JOYSTICK.  Very durable controller.

I have been drooling for that a long time now.. It is just so pricey and I can't even imagine how much shipping to Finland would cost. :I

I use my trusty old Commodore VG-260 that I originally had with my C64 in the 80's. I didn't sell it with the C64 back then, so I still got it.

I do also have a Switch Joy, Competition Pro 5000 and 9000, TAC 2, 2 x VG-200 and a FantaStick.

I am using a Competion Pro (classical red/black) since 1990.
It's still the first one!

I also had two Quickshots, but they already broke after 3 months (Wintergames & Decathlon = no good for Quickshot) ;-)

Almost forgot, I also have a "Quickshot 1"

http://www.retrogames.co.uk/stock/assets/images/1Mach_-_Quickshot_1_Bxd.jpg

Got it bundled with my c64. It still works, but I'm thinking  of upgrading it with a microswitch under the firebutton.

Tac-II, Zipstick, and Competition Pro 5000 were my favorites.

I've never used the Arcade Joystick by Suzo mentioned by Odin, however I would assume that it is a great joystick as it looks nice and I've heard a lot of praise about it.

for ik+ I prefer the Suncom Totally Accurate Controller 2 (TAC-2), for everything else I rather use the Competition 2 joypad or SEGA joypad...
