Damn, what di you do ? I recently broke dead a SoundCard, a cheap SB164PCI by just touching it w/ my greasy hands.

After a volt-meter test, it was declared deceased.

Now I only touch HWare with silk-gloves  8-) serious, you know the disposable tissue gloves in photo labs ? Not the latex medical ones. Well, it fits, and provides enough tactile sens. to manipulate things accurately. Besides, they look really cool  8-)

One of the capacitators are loose, so it's operation is in an intermittent kind of way... :-)

It's the best damn card I've ever had.
The very first AGP card I ever bought. The only one that is still working! ( OK, I screwed up the Savage 4 myself, by overclocking it into eternity... :-D )

I have never broke one of mine and I have had plenty and still have plenty.

I don't know how you people do it. Well, besides overclocking it in to oblivion. That's not very smart though.

Mainly by buying things as cheap as possible.
I've come across many brands of computer perpherials that have generally been crap at best.
The only exception has been a taiwaneese company called Daytona.
All products that I've ever bought from them has been working perfect from first day ( except that certain Savage 4... :-D ). The SW package that comes with the cards suck ( mainly 2D MS-DOS games  ), but the cards work fine when using reference drivers.

The problem with my Kyro was related to bad soldering though. It's probably an easy fix for any one good at soldering small stuff, but as I've ordered a new computer I don't really care.

Update:
I've managed to find Direct3D capable Windows XP drivers for the i740. Now I just have to dig that ol' Voodoo 2 out of the closet and find some XP drivers for it... :-D

It wasn't by any chance a Radeon card? They have issues with capasitors falling off all the time.

(edit) Sorry, missed that part about the Kyro (/edit)

So why not just replace the capacitor? Unless it's a SMT unit, desoldering and replacing it shouldn't be a problem.

I inherited a Diamond Viper plus SB PCI sound card from a machine that'd been crushed by a car. (don't ask!) The Viper went into my daughter's machine and the SB PCI card got two capacitors replaced before I sold it to a friend. And yes, I did tell him the card's history.

Indeed.
For someone with better soldering skills than me, it would probably be easy. I've ordered a new computer anyway, so I don't need it anymore...
