I liked GTA3/VC...but if I were to buy a console right now
it would probably be the Nintendo. It's cheap...and games
like Metroid are great. It may not be the most advanced,
but it "whips" the PS2 as far as graphics and gameplay
(IMO) and the sound chip is decent.

Please, don't just make up stuff because you don't like Microsoft. The Xbox may have a couple of FPS-games more than PS2 and Gamecube, but the number is insignificant besides all the other great games that are out for it. It is a console - and a good one - in every single sense of the word.

The fact that SEGA makes lots of games for it is enough to buy one at all. Crazy Taxi 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie, Sega GT 2002, Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue II, their sports-series and even more games that I can't remember right now. And that's just from Sega for crying out loud.

The people who go on about Xbox being just a PC .. you should get over the hardware and look at the games. The games are what matters. Some people who have bitched about the Xbox being nothing more than a PC shut up good when they finally had a chance to try it. And there is nothing out there that compares with Xbox Live.

I have pretty much every console from Atari 2600 to Xbox (missing a few Asian handhelds and the NES - although I do have one of those boxes with lots of NES-games in a joystick). The king of the console market right now is Xbox. I managed to get over my hatred for Microsoft in this particular case. I really just started to see it for what it was: a bloody awesome console that kicks the living daylights out of the competition.

Aoh, convince you... 1st you'll never quite get the amount of money needed 4 a PS2 out of selling your wonderful 1200...

It's not even in the same league, I mean, considering selling your dishwasher or microwave oven to get a PS2 is the same logical process ;-)

Just put the 1200 in a safe place, and start saving for the game machine of your dreams, wich BTW may well be a G3-based Miggy 8-)

I got a X-Box, partly because my daughter asked me to buy one with the finger on the trigger, and partly because I knew I could run Linux on it.

OK, some games are great. Playing halo, the all-killer FPS with a joypad, mind you, is very difficult, I really prefer KB+mouse 4 it.

I saw XBox live at a friend's... It's really impressive, the way you talk to ppl while riding MotoGP, but I don't want microsoft entering my house like that.

Oh, and a last thing : Did you saw the PRICES of console games

I mean, in France, an XBox game costs 50$, OK ?

Never had any question which console if I got one, PS2 for sure. I'm still thinking of getting a PS2 now because I think my expanded A1200 is worth enough for a PS2 now. Later I'll either get a better A1200 when they're cheaper, or get an A1 with OS4 if it ever exists.

You are fed up with changing to pal video. You should buy a scandoubler. You don't have to change to pal video manually. There is another solution to play old games: WHDload. You can install the game on your hard drive and you don't have to disable your caches manually. You can find it at www.whdload.de and at www.Aminet.net. What sort of games do you like? If you like 3D-shooters, you can run this on your Amiga: Doom, Alien Breed 3d2 -The Killing grounds and Genetic Species. The best 3D shooter i ever played was Genetic Species. You can download it from aminet or buy Aminet 44.

I am using WHDLoad. I have about 30 games installed on my HD, most are WHDLoad configured. And most of the ones I enjoy most require rebooting for PAL or still require disabling cache. The other issue that I'm bored of the games I have. I've not yet found one that I really look forward to play again.

Yeah, but console games were 50$ in the 90s too as I recall. atleast Pc games sure were. Don't know about 80s but there was more competition back then, 30$s I think...

My big beef with XBox is that the most titles I've seen don't really take full advantage of the hardware. Even though XBox had a hard drive, for example, games seem to load much, much slower than they do on the PS2. Also, as harsh as I am on PS2 for reliability, XBox takes the cake for breakdowns. When Playstation was released, I was hard pressed to find any games less than $70. It wasn't until a year after I bought mine (in my area) before prices started to fall. Needless to say, my Playstation collection was very small for a while.

Meanwhile, most PC and Amiga titles I bought in the late 80's/early 90's were about $35. Adjusted for inflation, game prices have "fallen" quite a bit. It was a real shock to see "Red Baron" selling for $80 in the late 80's, but other than that, I've never thought that games were too expensive.

Oh yeah forgot to mention to everyone that I stil lhave an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 2000. Was thinking about upgrading maybe the 500 with a HD so I can play most of the same games anyway.

Anyone know if I can run the latest IBrowse or OS3.9 on the 500?

Did OS3.9 require a 68020 CPU as minimum? I forget. And to run IBrowse you would need an 020 or 030 CPU and some ram, probably 16MB.

Well, I decided to sell my Amiga 1200...

Basically I use Amiga and Commodore units for nostalgia/retro computing reasons. I've come to the conclusion that the Amiga 500 is actually a better nostalgia piece then the Amiga 1200. The reason being is that the Amiga 500, when it was new, was ahead of it's time. It was an amazing piece of hardware in it's time. However, when the Amiga 1200 came out, it was already kind of just "average" or maybe even a little behind. In otherwords, I expected more out of the Amiga 1200, because I wanted it to live up to the Amiga name.

In any case, I still have a fondness for Amiga, as well as Commodore 64 computers and still have an A500 and an A2000. But this A1200 is going away for a PS2...
