Help Please - WinUAE Configuration
« on: August 08, 2005, 12:44:08 PM »
Hi -

I am a Newbie to WinUAE and need some help
configuring my new system.  I've got the following
components:

Clean PC Pentium 3 (Athalon processor)
384 Meg RAM
Catweasel IV
Amiga Forever CD
Windows XP operating system (just installed)
Dual Floppy Drives
100 gig drive master
2 gig drive (duplicate) from my A4000 system
USB Zip disk (drive F) with both PC and Amiga format ZIP disks

I've got the floppy drives installed and working
at least to read PC disks. It will not read any
Amiga floppys yet.  When initially installing
Amiga Forever it asked if I wanted to mount the
floppy disks as amiga disks and I checked them off.
No luck here, though.

* PS the floppy drive cable was a bit short so after installing the board I moved its slot position switching it with my ethernet card.  After moving it it would not be recognized anymore.  Moving it back made it work again.  I've never heard of a position sensitive card before !

The same for my Zip disk (logical drive F).  When installing the software it asked me if I wanted it
mounted as an Amiga drive but won't see it.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.  Thank you !

I noticed this with my audigy2 last year or so when I moved the card between pci lots (needed the space for a larger gfx card cooler).  Solved the problem by uninstalling / reinstalling the card drivers.

Sorry I can't help with the catweasel or zip problems - I don't have either...

Well actually the latest drivers for the catweasel doesn´t support the pc drive function if you are using a single drive. You could attach a second pc drive directly to the catweasel  for amiga disks only, and the other for pc drives directly to the mainboard fdd controller. I have only one floppy and i can read and write amiga disks without problem, but pc disks cannot be accessed while the catweasel driver is loaded, but as i didn´t use much pc disks, isn´t a problem for me.
And you said you have a pentium 3 Athlon???? If it´s a pentium couldn´t be a athlon since they are from different brands, Intel and AMD respectively.
Hope this helps you. If you have more questions about the catweasel board i will help you, mine is working harder regenerating my old time favourites 500´s games

Hi -

Right now I have the floppy cable on the PC Motherboard
connected to the Catweasel IV, then that cable daisy chained to drive A and drive B.  Both access the PC disk just fine.  I've loaded all the different drivers tha show up under "Other Floppy Controller" Windows / System Config / Hardware Manager.

When I start WinUAE they still read PC disks just fine but do not seem to read Amiga disks.  Perhaps I have the software set wrong?

I've got more work to do here to figure this out !

Crow -

I connected one FD to the PC mother board and the other directly to the Catweasl IV.
Now it works great.  I didn not know that I had to use the CW softawre
utility to read Amiga disks, though, then make an image.  I think that the new
version of WinUAE reads Catweasl Amiga disks directly.  Will see soon !

Thanks a million
