AFAIK, host cities to the Olympics never write black numbers when the overall bill is due, so congratulations to London for being the most eager of the lot to lose a gigantic sum of money.

Of the recent summer olympics, only Athens has lost money.  I am guessing that London Olympics will make money and provide years of work for alot of people.

Well the county I live in, Kent, is one of those bordering London - its also Britain's gateway to Europe, as we have ferry ports, including Dover, the channel tunnel and Eurostar, as well as a couple of small airports. I heard one report saying that they think the foreign media alone will spend £20 million in Kent...

Having worked for a large television company, I can tell you that £20 million will mostly be spent on cocaine! ;-)

Work, I´m sure. Money hardly, unless you meant the IOC-delegates and various builders.
Athens, Sydney and Atlanta all lost money, Beijing and London is gonna lose money on it to.
As for why London and not Paris it´s a mix of politics and economics mostly economics(just think about Paris already having a up to date Track&Field stadium, thats lots of lost money for building contractors...)
Apple did it right the first time, bring back the Newton!

i'm just glad it's not in NY - we are still recovering from 9-11 and don't need more lunatics over here who have no common sense or street smarts.

and we don't need the money drain.

I do enjoy the olympics, especially the swimmers. mmmmmm

small swim trunks.
