Amiga Myst
« on: May 17, 2005, 12:10:35 AM »
Hi

I have just bought myst for my miggy, and after a lengthy install!! it just will not start.

It installed a folder named 'myst' and inside is the myst.aga file. However when i run this, it brings up on windows wtih screen options and start, but nothing happens regardless what I choose! :-?  :-?  :-?

Any suggestions

Amiga 4000d, cybervision64, 040 rev3.1, fastlane

This was probably the most over-hyped crap game I ever bought.  Oh well, one of many clickboom disappointments.

This may seem simple, but iirc I believe you need the Myst cd in your cd drive for it to start up, even after you've installed it.  Make sure you have the Myst cd icon on Workbench before clicking on the harddrive icon.

Click Amiga-M, the game is just running behind ;-)
Ah, and don't forget to download Myst 1.1 (from Aminet/game/patch).

@Argus

Yes! I remember drolling a bit over it when I saw it on clickboom's site and then when I finally got it it was a disppointment.

Do you have an ordinary Amiga monitor connected? If you run the aga version it opens an aga screen and that you won't see through a Cybervision, you'll only get a gray screen on that.

I only ever tried it on my A4000 so I guess it was opening in an AGA screenmode.  I'll try it on another machine with rtg (i.e. A2000).

@Jose

As for clickboom, I'm glad they did as many games as they did but they seemed to always fall short on playability. Myst simply isn't my cup of tea anyway but their 68K Quake port was dreadfully slow (there's no way I'd use it over Frank Wille/Steffen Hauser's port or BlitzQuake).  I do applaud they for doing it and I still want to some day try Capital Punishment.  I've read though that other games like Napalm, etc. are like old Psygnosis games, big on upfront presentation but low on speed and enjoyment.  imho, hyperion is/was doing a better job at porting games to the Amiga (cheap plug here).

I have Myst working on my CGX4 Amiga BVision display without problems.  You should have two Myst icons one for AGA and a second one for CGX make sure that you are clicking on the correct one.

I have run the Amiga version of Myst on both my Amiga under CGX and AGA and on WinUAE with P96 without problems.

The following update from clickboom may help you:

http://www.clickboom.com/download.shtml

As for the game I really enjoyed it and the Amiga port runs better on my 060 Amiga than the PC version did on my PC at the time Myst was first released for the Amiga.
Sam440ep 667mhz 512megs OS4.1
Minimig, 4MB RAM, ARM add-on board
Amiga 1200 Eyetech mk4 Tower, Blizzard 1240 040/40 32MB Fast ram, IDEFix Express mk2, mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3 PCI, PCI network card, OS3.9 BB2.

Amiga Myst was a great port. Everything transfered from pc/mac version intact and its one of the few games that actually works reasonably well on 040/25 + Bvis)

Of course you have to enjoy puzzle solving (using ya brain)  as well as nice visuals to enjoy the game :D

Clickboom produced quite a few good games. T-Zero was probably the best as far as I'm concerned.

Myst was the Driver 3 of its time. Sold loads, but was awful. I suppose at least Myst worked better.

Actually, that's a little harsh. Myst was OK, but not particularly special.

Never played T-Zero, wasn't that a platform scrolling type game?

@Argus

I have T-Zero. It's an RType kind of game, only the animations have more colors and sprites and bobs are bigger. It's only for AGA. Good game. Only thing I miss is that they could've made the gamer's ships look better. That and the graphics would be almost perfect.
