Now it's time to fix the CD problem! Help!

Now i'm gettin' tiered of not having a CD my Amiga. I've already have a hole for the IDE cable, but what cable should i get and how should i install it?
Posible to use some of the cables that's in an older PC? What cables? Possible to use whatever CD-rom you want or does it need to be a special CD-rom? How should i mount it? How should i get the power? i've heard that the A500 power supplye is 20% more powerfull...possible to use this one of you've only got one acceleration card (030/50mhz) in the Amiga?

Get an AT or ATX power supply to power the cd-rom + A1200.. The A500 brick isn't really up to it. Search this forum for info on how to use the ATX PSU.

What kind of hard drive do you have in the A1200 now? 2.5" or 3.5"?

The cable you make must take into account both devices you are going to install on the IDE bus..

It's possible to make a long 44pin IDE cable that has three connectors.

The first two are normal 44pin connectors and the last one is 40 pin. You only connect the first 40 wires to the CD-ROM drive's connector (the last one). The 44 pin cable's wires are thin. so be careful to make sure they make contact to the big connector (soldering might be an option if you have a proper fine tipped soldering iron).

Careful about using longer cables. They can really cause problems. I have a couple of 1m long cables. They can be error prone at times.

Oh..I hate to sound dumb, but is it a normal 3.5" cable or a pokey little 2.5" one.

As for power supplies. Definitely go for AT/ATX. My A500 PS started complaining within hours of running the A500, 3.5"hdd and CD-ROM.
