Guy selling A500 as a A1200
« on: February 27, 2005, 05:16:57 AM »
I hope this isn`t seen as spam.

I have just been looking on ebay for a vanilla A1200 as the two i have already have seen better days.

Anyway, I happened across this auction of what seems like a guy trying to sell an original ks1.3 512kb amiga 500 as an A1200.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3544&item=8173306448&rd=1

I have email the guy? the following message to ask him to correct the the error as it is misleading and await his reply.

Hi,
This is not a question as such, But just an observation.
The auction for item number 8173306448 states in the title that it is an Amiga 1200. But it can be clearly seen in the accompanying pictures that it is in fact an original Amiga 500 (not Plus). As the machine does not have the 1200 or 500 plus case badge on the right of the unit, Only the commodore "C" logo which only came with 512kb of memory (not 2mb as the A1200 did), Which i think is a bit misleading. Is there any chance you could correct this error or atleast post a comment in the discription pointing out this error.

Regards

This could be a genuine mistake, But could be an unfortunate purchase for someone expecting an A1200.

Is Lemmings 2 the same as Lemmings Tribes? That picture looks like Lemmings Tribes, but then again, it's been a long time since I played that game.

Trooper : he didn´t change it yet so he just received a mail from me too with the message :

"Hi, you are not selling an A1200 at all, it´s just an old A500 !! An A1200 is much smaller, doesn´t need A520 antenna box because it has got standard antenna output, has got a different power supply and certainly a different mouse. What you are doing is misleading and Ebay itself has specific rules about that !!"

It was not so difficult to see the problem at this auction but it would be a lot worse if somebody would sell a Blizzard PPC card which actually would only be a Blizzard 1220/4 ...

I emailed him too, he is apparently ebay-scam:

message:
Hey, the item you are selling is an Amiga500 and NOT a 1200. Shame on you!

It could just be a simple mistake. Not everyone has as much knowledge on amiga computers as we do. Dont be so quick to call people scammers.

This item has only been on there for a couple of days now.. Everyone can do a mistake.

True... But every seller can also do a correction on a mislabelled item on eBay.  Or even if there were already a bid, you could do the "answer a question" thing and have that displayed at the bottom of the auction.  Hopefully he steps up and fixes it soon.

Is postage really that expensive in the UK ? I mean 20 £, thats about 30 EUR. Here in Germany you can send a 20kg pacel with standardinsurance of 500 EUR for 14 EUR.
For 32 EUR I could send the 20kg all around Europe.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Absolutely.  It's obviously not a scam, it's just a mistake.

If he was really trying to scam people then he wouldn't have put massive photos up showing that it is an A500.

And real scammers don't sell £30 Amigas they sell Plasma TV's, Vaio's, Powerbooks and so on.

It depends how he's sending it. Parcel Force 24, Courier, or Royal Mail Special Delivery could all be around £20 for something of that size / weight.  And he's within his rights to add a "handling fee" and the cost of packing materials too.

Yep, The panic is over. The guy called rachel mail the following message. Well, You can`t be too careful, Can you. :-D

Hi,

Many thanks for taking the trouble to contact me, you are totally correct, it's not a 1200 at all, it's a 500.

I have no idea why I mis-typed it, other than the fact that I haven't even looked at it for several years...entirely my mistake.

I have corrected the listing, so let's hope I get some bids on it now!

Thanks again for taking the time,

Rachel (and Spot, who is in disgrace for not "spotting" the error!)
