We don't bother with valentines day at all.  Why should we spend money on each other for a so called "special day" for lovers?

Waste of money if you ask us.  It's not a special day if everybody else does it (no not that... well, okay most often yes that) on that day too?

April 11th is our "anniversary".  That's the only day other than birthday and christmas that we purposely spend some money on each other.

And the best thing is Sioux hates flowers :-D

She's got hayfever and she's got a phobia of bees and wasps.  So anything I get her is great.  Even if it is an album (metal preferrably) or a console game (anything Sega related) or a book (HP Lovecraft) or a DVD (Star Trek, cheap B-movie horrors - absolutely no "womens" or soppy films)... the list goes on.

Oh jeez....

I thought you were all supposed to be making me feel better?

Maybe I ought to cancel the flowers and buy those Easton EA70 bars I had my eye on?

If I were St Valentine, I'd have come up with a day where we celebrate our love for our significant other by going out with one's peers and drinking, or better still we get the following day off work to recover.

There's no excuse to spend  £50.95(!!!!) on flowers
Shame on you to waste so much money such a thing!

one could better go out in the field and pick some flowers there.
It's btw more spontaneous than the obligatory 'valentine' thing.

You do not have to spend money

Hum,
for that price why go for `Easton`(weights in at 200 + grams) when you can get a 118 Ti ?

- titanium, light, non rust, strong, and its got a but of flex to save your wrists, like a rockshock , and deals with those  sharp vibrations that the rockshocks are too slow to react to....
is this a  Dream?....

The funny thing is...if Blobzie asked me to get her those handlebars, I probably would.  :-)

@ Toy Boy and Vince

I hear what you're saying, that love need not have a price tag, but surely Valentine's Day is an opportunity to be a little bit naughty, spring a few surprises and maybe do something a little out of the ordinary (even if it costs nothing)?

Mate she's got to be worth it, any girl who can fix your bike for you is worth her weight in gold (or titanium).

I'm sure she's worth the Marzocchis and wheels too.

@PMC

The flowers themselves actually have little value, but the confidence they purchase could be priceless. That's a bargain at almost any price!
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.

I have a major mystery I don't understand about Valentine's Day.

That's flowers - what's the point? I'm sure the flowers themselves are much happier still attached to the plant. And much as I would like to find a use for them, butchered plant gonads just strike me as a totally pointless gift. I could see the point if the man had to climb a mountain to get them, but paying £50 from Interflora after a 3 minute drive for a handful of greenhouse-raised genetically spliced shrubbery is insane. I mean, if women are so materialistic that they require some kind of sacrifice, why not buy them something USEFUL? Something that's not going to wither and die after three amazing days of not actually doing anything?
