Hrm the chap in my avatar is one of my inspirations, because even though he's had about the worst that life can throw at him, he's not only beaten his critics, but gone on to live a happy and productive life.

other inspirations... A chap I knew called Chris Wenham, I met him in the Navy, taught me to sing and rekindled in me a love of music that has never left.

J.R.R Tolken, Anne McCathrey and Raymond E Fiest have inspired me to use my imagination, and to write.

Eric Schwartz also inspired me to use my imagination, and to draw.

There are others, but they have inspired me for different reasons, some of them quite personal so I won't go further.
Blessed Be,
Alan Fisher - the_leander

Inspirations:

Well there's people like Nelson Mandela, Bob Geldof, some of the philantrophists of the Industrial Reveolution like Rowntree etc who managed to couple industrialisation with a strong social conscience.  There are people like Mo Mowlam, who remained true to her ethics, Germaine Greer who's a very clever lady indeed and who inspired with her BB walkout...

There's a good few inspirational peeps here too - I won't embarrass you but you should all know who you are by now.
