unreadable df0:
« on: January 16, 2005, 01:44:30 PM »
I put my A4000D '040 back together after testing out a cpu board. It is running os 3.9. When I fire it up now it seems to take a long time, with the HD light blinking and then going out and then blinking again, as if it is thinking about something and then remembering that it has a job to do, like booting up. Then it comes on and the icons for df0: and pc0: read as follows- the df0: icon says "unreadable" and the pc0: icon says "uninitiated". What is it trying to tell me? The cables look good so far but I need to tear it all down again and see if all the pine and things are where they should be. All I did was pull the floppy frame out far enough to pull out the '040 board and try the old ec030 card. Then I put it all together with the '040 after pushing on the cables to see that they were in place firmly. Any suggestions? Everything else seems to work just fine except for the floppy.

Sounds like a loose floppy cable or a missing power cable on the floppy drive.

That's what I thought too. I am going to work on it as soon as my meds kick in. I have some problems with chronic pain... fibromyalgia and degenerative disc dis-ease... but before when something was wrong like that the thing would not boot at all. I was just confused about the meaning of the icon labels, never seen those before. This constant taking apart the box is one reason I'd like to tower this beast using a tower with clips instead of screws. Whose bright idea was it anyway to have computers all sealed up with lots of little screws? I wish I could convert all my Miggies to some sort of plug-in devices you could just shove into a rack and have the keyboards and mice etc plug into an easy to get to set of ports up front. Ah well.

Hi Will

first of all remove (for now) the PC0 icon from Devs:DosDrivers/

Then check twice (or even more) if you have fitted the ICD 34 pins floppy connector correctly (and no shifted by one pin)

Without a polarization key, its easy to fail.

Bye :-)
