Help ! Install(er) won't work
« on: January 14, 2005, 04:16:35 AM »
Hi Amiga Fans,

I've got a problem with my A1200 running OS 3.1.
Recently I purchased and Ethernet PC Card for my
Amiga and it has an installation disk with it. The
installation script won't run.  The requestor box
says "Can not find the tool c:Installer".  Checking
my c: directory I only have the program Install.

Anyway, I tired downloading (to my PC boo) from Aminet newer Installer programs.  NewInstaller needs MUI and newer libraries.  I can not figure out how to install InstallerNG which might also need MUI which I also do not have running.

Any suggestions - other than throwing the Amiga out the window?  I'm getting pretty frustrated.  This is the almost the last straw  - I can't get my external SCSI CD rom to mount properly nor can I get my ZIP drive to read MS-Dos formatted disks JEEZ !

Copy installer from the OS3.1 Install disk to your c: directory.

Better to take Installer-43_3.lha from Aminet.

Have you set the correct device and unit number in the sys:devs/dosdrivers/cd0 mountlist?

Hi -

1) I looked on the OS3.1 disks and can not find any program called Installer.  Just the c:\Install program.

2) I will try to download and install the other version of
Installer that you mentioned from Aminet.

3)I'm not sure about the correct device and unit number in the sys:devx/cd0 mountlist.  What should I be looking for?

Thanks for the suggestions.

It depends on the scsi controller/device you are using. I assume you already have a cdrom filesystem isntalled. So there should be a file like cd[0,1,2,etc] "sys:devs/dosdrivers". You can edit this file with a text editor. Look for the entries "device = xyz.device" and "unit = x". You should set "device = " to the device of your scsi controller (must be in sys:devs after you installed the driver) and the "unit = " to the scsi unit your cdrom drive is at (this is usually configured by jumpers on the device).. Which scsi controller are you using btw?

The file 'Installer' will be in the root directory of the 3.1 Install disk, it's not in c/.
