I'll be sober, but I'll probably have legendary heartburn from my wife's red hot hopping john.

( Do yankees know what hopping john is? That could sound funny if not)

good advice, apart from the fact that not everyone smokes fags...

The best hang-over prevention is to have a glass of water for every second drink you have.

I've only been hung over once, but thanks to my girlfriend I managed to make it go away by copious ammonts of ice-cream! :-)

Yep, hangovers are partly caused by toxins produced by the breakdown of alcohols in the liver. Ethanol is a poison, most people don't seem to realise that.

Since you are a chemist, consider the following: ethanol is readily transformed into ethanal, which is the nasty chemical your body doesn't respond well to---and also causes hangover symptoms. (I was taught however that dehydration is the main cause of heangovers.) Ethanal is catalytically broken down by means of a copper-containing peptide. Imagine what would happen if you fed a heavy drinker a small dose of a very strongly copper-complexing compound, say EDTA or a derivative.

:-)

That one has worked for me too. Although I did have a wee nip of something toxic on new years eve.

But failing that, keep drinking! I'm surprised no-one has mentioned hair of the dog yet (or if they have I apologise for not spotting it.) That has also worked very well for me in the past.  :-P

I haven't said it before so I will now, nappy yew hear everyone! Lets hope 2005 has some good stuff in it.

I know EDTA is already used in medicine to complex with metals, in coronary patients at least, so it could work in theory. Supposing it actually did work and it inhibited the action of the enzyme responsible for oxidising ethanol. The overall effect on the body from ethanol then would be much the same as for other members of the primary alcohol family, which we have no enzymes to protect against: that is, blindness, CNS damage, liver scarring, and probable death. Dying is one way to cure a hangover I suppose... ;)

Regards,
I could help him (with the use of a strait jacket)
but seriously, on that point, only he can help himself (he should become concious that he has a very big problem).

Well, he has plenty of booze he smuggled from the New Year party into his house (which his parents wouldn't approve). He sees it as a blessing in disguise.

Be quiet CU_AMiGA! You took home 10 bottles of Stella, so you can talk!

And BTW, I do NOT have a very big problem. I have not drunk anything since Saturday.
