Miami/XSurf hangs on large file transfers to PC, help!
« on: December 30, 2004, 05:17:14 PM »
Hi mates,

I'm looking for some help, hopefully somebody can help me. As the subject says, I've been trying to transfer large files (600mb+) from my amiga to my PC via FTP using a ftp daemon on the Amiga (rcftpd). My amiga specs:

A1200 T BPPC 603e+, 256 mb ram, BVision, Z4 busboard, Algor USB, Xsurf ethernet and Var I/O cards.

I'm using MiamiDLX to connect the amiga to my LAN via Z2 MNI driver. It's working fine, I can browse the internet, see the other machines on the network, etc. It seems the problem only comes when I try to make fast transfers within the local network. As soon as I get the client on the PC to retrieve the files, Miami stops working. This is a random behavior, it does not always stop working at the same time. Sometimes I can transfer 3, 5 or 10 MB at 700kb/sec.. sometimes it stops transfering immediately. Disabling/enabling the interface does not work, the interface can be enabled but it does not work when this happens, I have to reset the machine.  I've tried to search the net for information on possible problems with such a setup but I can't find any. By the way, I've tried to do the same using the xsurf SANAII driver, I found a similar behavior, slower transfers and random freezes too.

I have not tried this with a vanilla OS installation, however I've removed all my patches to boot as clean as possible with no luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

thanks!

D.

2 things to try first:
1. Use the SANA-II driver instead of MNI and see what happens.
2. A different ftp daemon.

I would have also doubled or trippled your standard stack size in s:startup-sequence to allow head room for the programs to use. Might have helped.

Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example
