btw: did you make sure that the simm did not touch the metalshield? because there is about -110v in the gound, to shield the computer. Alot of bad things can happen if any part of the computer i shorted with the metalshield, trust me

erm . . .may i suggest you, to check your house ground system? ;-)

hehe. ok, I should have been more clear on that. The pontial between objects witch make thier OWN ground will create an potential of -110v, but of cource there isn't any current in it, but i can be felt like a small buzzing sensation if you touch your radiator and the "own" grounded object.

and btw. congratulation with your A1200 and PPC !! a very nice gift you "got" there  :-D

Thanks, but I owe it all to the technical skills of our clubmember Flurk. When it first happened I was prepared to throw it in the trashcan

Effy

let we know what your friend has replaced.

One of my CSPPC has gone for a similar problem (2 crap 50ns SIMMs)

The fault was on the SIMMs>ram controller rails (and/or buffers)?

Thanks

Okay Framiga, shall ask him. I just want to say that he hasn´t got any experience at Amiga, just a major obession with repairing PS1´s and a lot of other tech stuff. That said I also must add that he already repaired two of my A4000´s with Fast Mem problems, from which one was called by a leaking battery ... so in my eyes I put him at the top of my personal ranking  :-)
Another touchy question, how much do you want to spend at the repair ???

edit : just mailed him and shall let you know what he will reply

About 128 Mb server modules that use a different voltage. What does the Amiga use ??? 5 V ??? Are those server modules then 3,3 V ??? Can´t you place a cheap voltage stableliser on those modules to make them work in a 5 V system ???

Take a look at this URL:

http://www.18004memory.com/category.asp?catid=2&subcatid=201

128Mb FPM still appears to be on sale here as well as many other
websites. If you buy new like this you will have a warranty and a good
description of what you are buying and what machine it was designed
for.

I would reccomend FPM once again over EDO or even server memory. A
Good 64Mb is worth more to me than a cheaper 128Mb server chip or EDO.

It might even be safer to change the SIMM socket on your accelerator
to accept a fatter FPM than to risk slotting in a thin SIMM of death.
