Your Dream Place Or Country That You Would Like To Visit
« on: December 16, 2004, 03:39:01 PM »
Hello

The country that i have to go to in my lifetime would have to be Japan. I really like anything that is it do with technology. And Japan is probably the most technially advanced country there is. So it would be right up my street. But i would also like to visit the country for its ancient history and culture as well.

Canada, Russia, Svalbard, Arctica, Antarctica and New Zealand (again....and I wouldn't mind living there at all). Oh and I really need to visit Eastern Europe.

For me it's New Zealand.

The climate is temperate, the scenery is spectacular, it's a mountain bikers paradise, it's the middle of summer there and it's as far from damp, flat, grey and dreary Essex as it's possible to get, while still keeping your feet dry on this planet.

And you've got like a gazillion different landscapes and climates in one (relatively small) country! Sort of like a mini-Earth :-D.

Mine would most definately have to be Cuba.

Before Castro dies too, as we all know the minute he pop's his clogs those soldiers in Guantanamo bay will be "Liberating" those poor Cuban people, so they are free to work for US corporations and buy US products and vote in the US election when it becomes the next US state.

I really want to see this beautiful country and witness for myself the good and the bad aspects of living under a Communist dictator.

Do you thinks the Cubans would want to become the 51st State?  Just asking you opinion. (Have to qualify my questions so nobody thinks I have some political agenda. :-D )

before it melts....

@bjjones37
shouldn’t that be 47th State?

[There are 46 `states` and 4 `independencies`(?) of America]

i forget what the other four are called:
Perhaps, someone else remembers...

I wouldn't think so.

Even if every single last person on the Island wanted to get rid of Castro and embrace capitalism, why would they want to give up their sovereignty  and national identity to another power?  One day your Cuban, the next you are American. I don't think so.

Changing your economic and politcial systems is one thing, losing your nationality is another.

Look at all the trouble about the EU over here in the UK, we don't mind trading with the EU but no one wants to stop being British and become Euroish? ;-)

After centuries of beating off various parts of europe at one time or another (and loosing half the time, it has to be said) many brits feel like the EU is simply another way for Europe to rule the UK.

I think one way of putting it is this, if you ask a dutchman his or her nationality, they may say either dutch or european depending on who is asking. If a brit or a scott or welshman is asked, it will always be british, scottish or welsh respectively every time.

I'm not talking about being a member state of the EU.  I have no problem with that at all.

The way I see it:  The very-anti european parties in Britain like the Tory's and UKIP believe that one day the EU will become a country, not a collection of countries working together like it currently is.

To my point clear about the Cuban's I ask, what nationality are the natives of Hawaii?
