Image processing
« on: February 15, 2003, 06:12:14 PM »
Hi there

I`ve got a small request. Does anybody know of any simple image processing software, which can do at least Scaling? Nice if it could do cropping and 90° rotating too.Something which uses datatypes as I`ve found that some of the simpl ones don`t like the jpgs I want to use. Something that will allow me to work on my DOpus screen, and will not rely on its own screen. This is something I could do with.

Thanks

PS I`ve been thinking of Photofolio 2.3. Has anybody got that here?

You can try NetPBM package,it supports PPC,plenty of filetypes and you can do a nice arexx script to manage it.
Search it on aminet.

in the latests AmigActive issues there are one simple script that allows you do what you want.
and the best:
It is free!
AmigaOne X1000

What about PPaint, a pretty good version was made free a while ago I think.

You might need to find something to strip extraneous data from JPEGs, these days lots of JPEG originating programs add all manner of garbage.

It's been a while since I've done anything like this on the Amiga..

@Nick

You'll find all you need and more in Image Studio by
Andy and Graham Dean.

I use it for thumbnails of jpegs, gifs, etc. It's brilliant!

Check out my site for examples.

DOH! I knew I should say Imagestudio doesn`t do it properly. I want it be on my desktop and to be able to load the jpgs from my camera. They won`t load in Imagestudio.

Just to clarify. When I say "On my desktop". I mean not on its own screen.

Thanks

Just had an idea.

Is there a way to make it so normally ImageFX loads on its own screen, but for these rare occasions when I do want to do stuff on my desktop, I could make it load onto my destop? If that makes any sense?

Thanks

PS I don`t mean loading it then changing the prefs. That defeats the whole idea.

Easy. Copy  IFX and rename it, say IFX_Desktop (or whatever floats your boat). Go into icon information and type WORKBENCH  Then save it
Check to make sure you haven't got any other conflicting tooltypes in there.
IFX should now open on your workbench.

Hmm ImageFX won`t listen. Nomatter what I do it crashes on startup. I mean if I do copy the ImageFX file and change the tooltype to use a different config file (one which is set to DOpus screen) it just crashes. What ever i do it crashes if its not on it own screen. Unless I go in as normal and then change the prefs.

I may get Photofolio 2.3. Its looking good anyway.

Thanks people. You`ve been very helpful.

PS This isn`t the end if you have other ideas. :-)

are you  kidding me??? :-o
what could be simpler than making gifs - or any animation - in IFX 4.5???
i made lots of gifs for web sites using it.

hmm, as soon as i get my laptop stable enough i may write an article on doing that!

and as for having ifx come up in different windows, save different prefs (different names) and save different icons with those prefs in the icon. choose which one you need when you need it.

If it's not stable on your lap, try using it on a table  :-D

Try this out
GfxCon from the
aminet.  It's fairly small, and gets the job done for the most part.
It also supports ARexx.

gfx/conv/gfxcon.lha if you are too busy to get it right this moment.
Regards,
Targhan

@Targhan

I`ve tried that already. It won`t load the jpegs either. They have some exif thing in them. Some of the older/freeer programs don`t like them.

Does anybody know of a program which could get rid of this exif rubbish?

HUH!? Wheres my reply to Cecilia? I put a reply just after her post. Oh well.

@Cecilia

When I said "simple" I meant a small and simple program. I know imageFX is easy to use. Though I only have version 4. I think I`ll have to get 4.5 soon.
