The A2320 and AGA modes

As my multiscan monitor creeps closer and closer to death, my need for a scandoubler in my A000T is growing exponentially. I don't understand why these devices are so rare! There should be a near-perpetual market for them, it seems.

Anyway, unless a scandoubler module for the CV3D suddenly turns up (hint hint ;-)), I need to look at other options. I don't really want an internal model that clips over chips (received one DOA, don't want to risk it again), so I'm looking into video-slot or RGB port types.

C= A2320s seem to turn up somewhat often, but they supposedly choke on AGA modes. Has anyone ever used one in an AGA system? How serious are the problems?

I haven't seen one personally but I understand the color is just jacked when using AGA, other than that it works fine.

From what I've heard the 2320 only supports 12 bit colour, so AGA would look like ECS :-o...

There are only a few scandoublers for the videoslot that sopport AGA. Apart from tha onboardscandoubler of the PIV there is only the CV3D Scandoublermodule and the videoslotversion of the Scandex from Micronic. All the other older scandoublers are ECS only, the oldest of them even have a problem with that. So your best bet would be in fact one of these on-chip scandoublers or external ones that, for all I know, all support AGA.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

I don't think you can say that the CV64/3D scandoubler really supports AGA, because only the red colour is 8 bits, green and blue only use 4.
Slightly bored and severly confused..

I would stay clear of the external scandoublers because they will take the analog signal and convert it to digital, scandouble that and the convert it to analog again, hence alot of quality can and will be lost in an external one. The an internal one, I use the ScanMagic with FF and it works like a charm! :-)

The Commodore A2320 Amber board is just a FF/SD.  It is not a graphics board.  Most graphics boards for the Amiga computer goes beyond AGA.  Anyway, AGA is not all its cracked up to be.  The Picasso IV card has a built-in FF/SD that is almost as good as the A2320.

I used a 2320 from my A2000 in my A4000 once, needed to same reason you do, monitor died and only had a vga standing around.

It worked for me, but all AGA modes had reduced colors. Games (OCS and ECS) worked fine, AGA looked silly.

You won't get much use of DPaint etc for instance.

But as a last resolve, it should work.

I use Deluxe paint with my A2320 board.  Works just fine.

DPaint works, but the A2320 can't display all colors of the AGA chipset. So AGA pictures with color fades look jagged.
Everything works, just not everything looks good!

Then do not use AGA.  Instead, use the chipset on your graphics board.  It goes beyond AGA, in fact True Color and many Amiga art and graphics programs support true color.  Deluxe Paint V, I believe, also supports true color.  Someone let me know if I am wrong about this.   :-D
