:-) YOU would probably want to do that even if they didn't want to use one.

Not only do I hate cellphones, I hate phones period. You simply can't relax with a phone in the house, if it rings you either have to get up and answer it or listen to it ringing.

I tried going without phones at all and absolutely loved it. My wife put her foot down though. so we compromised. Our phone no longer rings, and the answering machine message warns callers of the fact.

I still don't use it though. Those that know me know that if they want to speak to me, they'll just have to stop by for a visit.

I don't know why I have this pet peeve, I just do. I just don't like being obligated by the desires of others to contact me.

I know how you feel Kenny.
If their phone has a built in camera, they`ll soon find out it can also double as an endoscope.

Ever tried to sleep on a train lately? as soon as it gets to 8am it sounds like dawn in the Amazon.

BTW, if mobile phones can theoretically cause explosions in petrol stations, why don`t they make us push our cars off the forecourt before starting the engine?
There`s gotta be a greater risk from the HT leads, starter motor etc than a piddly 3v phone.
On schedule, and suing

I've always had my phone on Vibrate Only. I hate ring tones.

-Edit- I should say the most usefull feature of a phone that vibrates rather than rings, is that I know if someone is calling me... but whoever I'm with does not... This can be VERY usefull in certain situations :-D

I totally understand that.

I know the reason for why I hate phones, it was always bad news when I was a kid. Like the neighbours phoning about that either their own or our cows had gotten outside the fence.Trying to chase cows back inside the fence in the middle of a foggy night is not pleasant, especially when the cows escape out into the woods. :-)

Wasn´t there some mobile a while back that had a manfacturing fault in the battery which made the battery explode.
Now thats a useful feature, if you use this phone for longer than 3minutes it will explode Exactly whats needed. :-)

Oh and wasn´t NMT450 proved to cause damage to the eye, when used unresonably much? The retina came lose in the eye.

Yeah, that's a danger with Li-ion batteries. Their energy density is so high that if you short them, it produces an enormous amount of heat in a small time. And the battery electrolyte is lithium salts in ether. You don't have to be a chemist to see what can happen.

Thats why Li-ion are sold in very specialised battery packs with protection circuits all over the place to protect against shorts, overcharging, undercharging, etc... Hopefully in duplicate too, but you never know.

Mobile phones are bad for all ages. Official documents on the health-risks are not going to come to light for some time, just as the tobacco industry could keep all research into smoking quiet for years, so too are telecommunications giants (who are even richer than tobacco companies) keeping any negative information quiet as long as they can.

But without a doubt prolonged usage of such a tiny device as a mobile phone can cause eye-strain and RSI, even if they don't give you brain cancer.

Youngsters are easy targets for advertisers, so there are many negative social (as opposed to medical) effects of mobile phone usage too.

@KennyR: On your opinion of popularity: I could not agree more.

If the vocabulary typically used in texting is anything to go by, mobile phones probably cause CJD :-)

Does that explain why you don`t answer your phone?
I called 38 times yesterday, and it just rang and rang and rang... ;-)
