Ebay blues...again :-(
« on: August 23, 2004, 05:56:26 PM »
Hi guys,
I bought a few Amiga bits off a seller in the US. We did a buy it now auction, cos I missed out on the end of one of his auctions, but he did a buy it now for me cos he had another one - that way we weren't going 'outside of ebay'.
The thing is, there was lots of consistent comms [say two or three emails a day over the course of about three of four days], right up until the moment I paid - the last thing I heard is 'Thanks for your payment, I'll ship the item on Monday' - that was two weeks ago.

But since then I've emailed him two or three times to try and get an idea of when the item will be arriving, and I get no reply at all. Now this seems to me as if he's deliberately avoiding my email - has he just taken the money and run d'you reckon?

I can get the money back through my CC company, but this means another few weeks of running about, letter writing etc etc :-( :-(

Does anyone in the world have a scrap of conscience anymore?

All i can say is if a deal seems to good to be true it usualy is! + try and not bid from guys with litle or no + grades! this will make you loose out on some good deals from one time selles etc but its safer :).

He has quite good feedback - and the deal was not 'too good to be true'.

Did you pay via PayPal checkout? If so you should be covered under their buyer protection. Unless the seller can produce a tracking number showing delivery, you will get reimbursed by PayPal.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Unless the seller already withdrew the money from the PayPal account, at which point PayPal sends you a "Sorry, but we couldn't recover you any money.  The user's account has been suspended."  DESPITE HAVING PURCHASED THEIR WORTHLESS INSURANCE!  And since the transaction involved a valid PayPal payment that I authorized, my credit card company was no help, either.  (My payment to PayPal was valid.  They just handed the money to a scammer, and refused to reimburse me.)  Anyhow, there's a real reason I only deal with PayPal as a last resort.  THIEVES!
