AdIDE not recognizing anything greater then 2.1gig
« on: August 15, 2004, 02:44:15 AM »
I have a A500 w/1.3 roms, AdIDE2 w/a 3.2 gig 2.5" hard drive.  if I click 'Auto' to autoconfigure the hd it only gives it 2.1 gig yet it is a 3.2 gig.. is it a limitation w/1.3 or AdIDE ?  Is there a fix?

You may have to partition it into two seperate partitions.  That could possibly be the max. size for one?

I beleive that is the limitation for kickstart 1.3

It probably should even be a lower limitation than 2.1gigabytes, your partition software is doing good :)
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

yea it freaks out if I force it to recognize the complete 3.2 gig...

So I left it as 2.1.. 3 partitions and oh boy does it use up ALOT of memory... down to 16megs out of my 1meg.  Glad I have a ADRam 540 w/2megs coming in next week.

Ah so 2.1 is the max, that is what I was wondering.  I have a Novia kit coming soon.  Now I need to find a smaller HD.  I think I may have a 2G drive somewhere...

Do you have Buffers set high?  That would explain the high mem usage.  Down to 16k you mean?  Damn...

yea, I meant 16k...lol.   I dont think I have buffers set too high because I didnt set them..unless ICD's software modified my startup-sequence.

I've got one of these on its way too.
I was gonna put in a 160MB drive that I have lying around, but thanks for letting us know about the limit.
Is it fairly easy to fit?
I like Amigas

a 160meg should do fine.  I'll take pics of what I did.  I didnt like the way the Novia kit came with some 'stick on' tabs.. so what I did was drilled some tiny holes (4) on the top cover of the A500 about 3" to the right of the denise chip and have the drive on there.  Fits perfect.  I'll take pics later on tonight and post them.

I think they got theirs on ebay.. I just happen to run into a guy that had a few so I bought two.  I may buy some more and put them in a A500 and ebay it.

I think it's neat. Looks a lot better than my home-made CDR/HDD-box for one of my A1200's that's for sure.

Tjlazer:

Its just a cover, these things are a dime a dozen and I have a few A500's. LOL.   I didnt want to use the Novia bracket because it used 3 "stick on" type mounts and I didnt want to stick anything on the motherboard or chips.

Thanks for the information guys. From this thread I was able to accure the parts needed to duplicate this upgrade for one my A500s. I am new to the Amiga scene although I have known about the A500 since it was first introduced. Now I am getting the bug to gather more parts and additional systems to tinker with on the weekends; it's a great hobby!  :-D
