Overclock a Blizzard 1260
« on: July 09, 2004, 03:44:51 PM »
I´m planning to overclock my Blizzard 1260 board now when it´s running like it should (except I have no sound from my SB128, lol)
My question to all of you is if anyone here has any experience in overclocking this board with the non "MC" version of the 68060?

-Whoo-hoo, surfed here with Ibrowse 2.2 for the first time on my A1200T!

Amiga 1200 - Stock
Amiga CD32 - TF360
A bunch of ol' A500's

Haven't overclocked my Blizzard 1260 as I don't have it any more. I do want to overclock my BPPC sometime though.

Check out BBoAH and go to the Processors section. This will give you some information on how far you can push your CPU, but remember to cool the CPU so you don't break it. Can't see why you shouldn't be able to push it to 66 MHz, even though I'm only going to push my 68060 to 60 MHz, because of the SCSI bus on the BPPC board.

You can safely take it to a max of 75MHz.
I know a few Amiga dealers in the past who sold overclocked 060 accelerators at this speed and they have worked reliablly

I think Analogic might still do it, there were more as well

The B1260's design, with the simm going over the CPU, doesn't allow for great cooling of the CPU but it is possible (I cut some of the gills of a coolingplate to be able to fit it under my singlesided simm (still clicks in place)).

The XC runns quite hot as it is, in fact the CS060 MK1 came with active cooling for this reason, so you want to use a coolingplate no matter if you clock it or not. Any kind of overclocking should only be done with active cooling and still I wouldn't go higher than 60Mhz at the most (ok so perhaps you can use 55Mhz without a fan and perhaps you can push it to 66 or even 70Mhz with a fan but it's lifespan is shortened. I would personaly rather have a 10% slower computer for the next 5-10 more years than have it run faaast and see it die in a year or two).

@HopperJF

There is a LC060/75Mhz without FPU though some can clock full 060 to that and still have the FPU working it's not always the case and it's not exactly safe, especialy not for the older XC model (not the newer MC model found on most boards these days).

Thanks for all of the advice, guys!
The reason I want to overclock my 1260 is that I want some more speed without buying a PPC board.
Speaking about PPC boards...anyone in here know if it's vise to buy an Elbox Shark PPC board or is it better but slower CPU speed wise to buy a Blizzard PPC board for my A1200T?

It's 2 different options and can't realy be compared... also the shark is not available where's the BPPC can be found secondhand if you keep your eyes open.

Until we see what the shark is capable off or if it's going to be released we can't but speculate. Also OS4 will support BPPC but it's still unsurtan for the shark.

I would really not trust a PowerPC card with Analogic. If they are
incapable of identifying a fault with an A1200 chipset/display problem
I doubt they'll be able to rectify a PowerPC.

Even DCE seem to be having trouble sorting out the cards.

If you want to read more on Analogic go to these 2x threads:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9571

Please consider the other people offering repair services, I wouldn't
trust Analogic to repair a joystick.
