Amiga laptop survey #1
« on: June 13, 2004, 09:36:49 PM »
OK I need help in unerstanding what Amiga people want in a laptop. Below is a question to help me out, It will help me to arrange prioritys.

Question 1. Is it more important to have a small laptop or and amiga laptop that is a bit larger like a desktop replacement laptop.

Question 2. is it important to have an Amiga laptop running and useable while having to plug it in, or must it be battery powered before any other things occur.

thanks for the input!
BIG IRON (Or \\"heavy metal [Cambridge]) Large, expensive,ultra-fast computers. Used generally of number crunching supercomputers such as Crays, but can include more conventional big commercial IBMish mainframes.

1. Yes it need to be small or there's no point, I don't want a laptop that only bodybuilder legs can stand having in the lap for more than 10 minutes.

2. A laptop that can't be used there and then when you need it is not a laptop but a small stationary computer... then you can just as well use a stationary machine and a cordless keyboard/mouse instead.

Agreed with Brian on both points, though I realise the first answer makes it much harder to achieve what you're planning.

The second point, it would make it more of a terminal/kiosk than a desktop or laptop.

#1. Personally, I prefer a big screen and bigger keyboard on a laptop..there`s nothing worse than squinting at a tiddly 12" LCD, or having to type with two fingers because the ruddy keys are too close together to type naturally  :pissed:

As for #2, having the ability to run off a battery would be nice, but I doubt the Amiga would last long, also you`d have to put in a small power adapter to give it the range of voltages it needs.
Space will probably dictate that you`ll have to use the old external brick PSU.
On schedule, and suing

I prefer a small laptop (ie. 13-15" screen, or anything smaller than a Mac 17" notebook.  That think is a monster!), full size keyboard (minus things like the number pad of course), internal HD, maybe optical drive too.

Batteries are a must.  Why make a pseudo portable that really isn't?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I dunno, out of the PC laptops I support most are used as desktop replacements (so are better if larger - ie. A600 sized keyboard, 15" screen), and 95% are only used when plugged into the mains (having tried to use regular TFT in daylight, the only place you're likely to have a real use of batteries is on a train - which I tried once, and got motion sickness - or in a Cafe or similar).  This ties in with my personal tastes, but only after trying it all for myself.

So in conclusion, bigger, and mains power for me ;-)

1 small laptop thnx, coolness and mobility are central issues.

I think the most important thing is that its battery powered
I have never thought about not having a battery on my AmiLaptop project.
So first battery powered and then the size, and one more thing I just thought of, it must not be heavy like a suitcase stuffed with brick

and I be happy to hear how you work is progressing
